    Seeding mistletoe

Stopped today at Cowdray Park, Midhurst and took some pics of the Misteltoe on the Lindens. Having said the Mistletoe is a pest, this particular part of the estate has some very old trees that are seriously over mature. The Mistletoe does make quite a feature of them.

    Partial eclipse of the moon.

Go out right now, it’s spectacular!

    Partial eclipse of the moon.

Didn’t really go red for me, and at full eclipse it had slid low to the west anc it disappeared into icy fog. It was too cold to muck about with changing the 6x telephoto on the iPhone to a 2x and I was rapidly losing sight so here’s the best I could do. Sunrise was lovely though :)

What wildlife did you spot today?

I didn’t get a good pic, bit a lot of the bark is underneath in chips, so maybe they’re getting the cambium? The tree is a Field Maple and despite falling is still doing the Spring thing and I suspect the maple cambium is pretty tasty stuff. Maybe there aren’t any obvious incisor marks because...

What wildlife did you spot today?

In the wood rather than the bark, no. The wood is being peeled but not really marked. There’s a lot more today, I’m wondering now if it’s grey squirrels due to the lack of any trampling or prints. There’s a pond over on the other bank, a bit up and left of there that has domestic ducks. The guy...

    Hot camping wood stove modifications

Yep, good to see those increasingly familiar words, I’m right on this and following Danny Sheehans Paradigm Institute and the Skywatcher guys very closely. Quite how people are missing it all is beyond me. :alien2: Apologies for off topic drift NSFW, this is your thread.

What wildlife did you spot today?

That’s helpful, though Meonside is 18 miles off to the west of here. The other introduction at Black Down is nearer at 8.4 miles but it says they’re in an enclosure. I might phone Meonside Farm as it’s the farmer that led the reintroduction at Meonside. Ought to get the SIM card topped up in...

What wildlife did you spot today?

I have no idea, but deer damage didn’t spring to mind, hence the post. I didn’t even know we had coypu in the UK and I reckoned beaver is unlikely. But I honestly don’t know. Yes, it’s a broken bridge over a stream that that flows south and joins the River Rother, then the Arun.

Nikwax TX.Direct - does it work?

Thanks @Paul_B those are really helpful posts. I’ve had lousy results every time, though the coat keeps me dry anyway. I have a seriously old Keela ventile, bought around 2010 that’s still ok. I send it off to Keela when the cuffs fray or a pocket tears and it’s really been a sound investment...

    Seeding mistletoe

I must stop and take some pictures of the trees I know that are heavily infested. Here, Thrushes seem to be getting more common, which is likely completely unconnected but it’s lovely to see them.

Australia. By weird coincidence, this guy was born, or at least brought up in Bognor Regis, my old home town. @Le Loup good to see you’re still about you crazy old coot :D Bognor is a right old dump these days, a classic Georgian seaside town that lost its magic and charm many years ago. You...

It’s just Royal Mail policy. Companies like Heinnie and Knives and Tools require proof of age prior to purchase because they are the ones selling and legally bound not to sell to under 18’s. Due to Royal Mail initially announcing a complete ceasing of carrying bladed items and then backtracking...

What wildlife did you spot today?

I didn’t spot whatever did this, I’m assuming it’s a deer. The access is very limited and there are no hoof prints in the mud anywhere, even the bramble doesn’t look trampled. Whatever it is getting up onto the fallen tree to eat more bark, it’s quite a long reach when there are more accessible...

Please don’t think that this is being posted with any sort of aggravation, absolutely no offence is intended. It’s a bit like everyone knows a smoker who lived until they were in their 90’s, it doesn’t mean smoking isn’t extremely bad for you. “We all hear bad things daily” is a huge and...

The little original ones are nicer anyway, I reckon you could dump that main list and just add a few more to the old selection?

It doesn’t just apply to bladed items, it applies to anything that can’t be bought by under 18’s, like vapes. I think it’s a good system and you’re a little bit cynical about it. There are a lot of stories of under 18s ordering knives online and getting them delivered. I had an 8” chef knife...

Well, ideally it has to be passed to the customer. I have a bag of inexpensive Ganzo, Navy and Sanrenmu knives that I’d like to shift and I honestly can’t be bothered with the hassle of it, let alone the low financial return. I suppose I could put a minimum lot number or try and sell as a lot?
