Oh, I should say (in case it helps), taken in south east UK. Top one was about 5mm or so long, maybe one or two more. Can't remember how big the second one was because it was taken a while ago, but judging by the wood fibres in the picture I'd say it was more or less the same.

Anyone know what this little chap is? And is it the same as this one? I thought it may be, but now I see the two together they are not identical, but very similar. If not, what's this one as well? Cheers all

Butterfly numbers and variety are definitely down this year. I've seen all the usual ones I would expect (including, oddly, more green hairstreaks than would otherwise expect) but numbers are much lower (especially the blues, which I would expect to see plenty of on the chalk hills here). Oh, great stuff! No, I've never seen one. Hence why I didn't recognise it. I'm really pleased with that. This does mean, of course, that I will now have to stake out that spot one night on the off chance I'll see one glowing. That's great news - thanks.
