I get all that, totally.
Though, I'll say that as of 2011, soldiers did in fact only carry an FFD, I know that because I was one for a long time. Some choose to carry a FAK but it's not an SOP.
I'll also say I've been a member of a SAR team and I've dealt with many traumatic injuries, and...
I'm still of the opinion that this bleeds kit business is a bit of a nonsense but I'm happy to be converted and some of you guys have made some excellent suggestions which has really given me food for thought.
Here is an example though - who in our country is likely to suffer one of the most...
It's not sharp because I sanded the edge off ever so slightly but aside from that looking at others i think a rounded edge also looks more pleasing to the eye. So I would round off future versions I think.

All materials arrived. Here is the first prototype. It's a good size.
Visible rod is about 85mm with 25mm inset into the antler. I have decent sized hands and the antler gives me a good handle to work with. The antler handle is approx. 60mm. I gave it a coat of beeswax and a buff with the...
Top man. Hard work trying to build that channel up. The more the merrier.
Btw I've been remiss and not said I hope the hand is healing well enough [emoji106]

I'm a former member of a SAR team and in fact I was the teams Training Officer for a time too. The level of training in FA we receive is upto Ambulance Technician level with an emphasis on advanced trauma care.
But for all the training in the world, it is very difficult to fix yourself when you...
Orange Underwing maybe. If it is a butterfly I'd say it looks like a Dingy Skipper. Though I can't make out the characteristic white spots on the wing they'd normally have but they do tend to have a lighter orange in the wing than an Orange Underwing moth.

Oh yes of course. His skill and knowledge is easily up there with the best IMHO. I've a lot of time for him. I imagine his pricing structure hangs off the back of his very successful You Tube channel where his subscribers probably will invest the funds in his kit more to say it's made by him...
And cost you considerably less than the 80 notes he sells his for no doubt [emoji23]
Very nice piece of work @Bazzworx [emoji108]

Awesome. Thank you.
Yup. I agree. That said mind the less sparks usually, though not always, means you have a harder compound. A harder compound means it is more durable and will last longer albeit more practice is required to strike it successfully. If you are going to be out for extended...
Here's my first attempt. I fancy it could have been slightly tighter and gratefully @baggins has sent me plenty for a 2nd attempt.
First couple taken at home and last one in its natural environment

Ok so I've been impulsive and just purchased some large ferro rod. 6 inch long by about 12mm wide. And some antler and epoxy too.
I'll post pictures if it works out and I've ordered 12 rods so will have plenty of spares if anyone is interested.

This is the one I use now but I've seen people use much bigger chunkier ones and often with a harder compound too. Like the ebay ones above. Or this one that Mike at MCQ sells but the price seems a bit steep to me - that is to say steep if I dont want the pouch just the rod...
Hey all,
As per subject really anyone know where I can get one from?
Long strike area with antler handle. Longer than the sort of standard jobby with plastic handle you can buy everywhere. Not bothered if it is hard or soft compound.
