    Considering living off the grid.

That's who I did my apprenticeship with. It might be fine if you're out on the road with the holes and poles lot, but in the office surrounded by graduates, they just didn't understand the idea of apprentices. Not to mention the way projects and people were budgeted. Noone wanted to have a day's...

    Considering living off the grid.

I started work (in the final years of the last millennium) the day after my 16th Birthday. In what was then called a modern apprenticeship. Apprentice, from the old French word apprendre meaning to learn, or from the middle English for "cheap labour"... J

    Canvas Tarp

Is 8oz the lightest canvas that used on Canvas tarps? That's going to give a 3x3 tarp at over 2kg. J

    Canvas Tarp

Have been pondering canvas tarps recently, am curious, just how much heavier are they than my lightweight synthetic tarps? Do you have a canvas tarp, if so how big is it, and how much does it weigh? Cheers J

    Underwear.....

As long as it doesn't degenerate into a "I'll show you mine if you show me yours"... J

    Underwear.....

I can't believe I am discussing my underwear with strange men on the internet... J

    Underwear.....

Cotton underwear is not comfortable. I found that a type of microfibre knicker made by M&S and sold as "No VPL", are very effective, they wick sweat reasonably well, dry very quickly. They are also so light that you can take a dozen pairs for a negligible weight. I have no idea if the menswear...

    More Luna-cy - 16 speed Brompton upgrade

The Brompton has a spring loaded tension arm on the back with a pair of jockey wheels, a bit like a derailure arm, but without the ability to shift gears with it. It's needed to take up the slack when you fold it. J

    More Luna-cy - 16 speed Brompton upgrade

After much faffing, swearing, sweating, and 3 different bottom bracket tools, I've finally completed the upgrade of my Brompton to a 16 speed configuration. I found on my trips last year that the 33/20 1:1 bottom gear on the 16" wheel just wasn't low enough for any real hill climbing...

    Bushcraft show?

If you listen to any of Paul Kirtley's podcasts, or watch his youtube videos you'll hear him say "there's no such thing as bushcraft kit, there's bushcraft, then there's kit" And once you think about it, he's right. Given that Paul trained under Ray for a number of years, I'm guessing that there...

    Sharpening stone for leather sheath

I have a DC3, which as it's name suggests is 3" long (roughly 75x25mm), The DC4 is 4" long and also wider than the DC3. The diamond side is great at taking quite a bit of material off when you want to grind out a chip say. The ceramic side is good enough to put an edge on, tho you may want to...

    Summer shoes

Can I suggest you go for a walking or approach shoe without a goretex lining. Yes you may get wet feet if you jump in a stream, but your feet will dry out very quickly. J
