Gathering enough food to live off the land for a year

I've just noticed that there was a presentation given at the Bushcraft Symposium there was a presentation given titled 'Living of the Land in the Wilderness of central Europe". It might give added info although I accept Central Europe may not be your target.

Gathering enough food to live off the land for a year

Why did they go or why did they die? I cannot answer I'm afraid. The one chap came on here looking for learning resources if I remember correctly. Very sad either way. In essence relying on nature to provide is roulette, Russian roulette at that. I think we've damaged nature too much and...

Gathering enough food to live off the land for a year

I seem to remember two cases in the UK where people went off grid and basically died. This is in the last 10 - 12 years. It's just not feasible IMO. One was a participant in this parish.

Gathering enough food to live off the land for a year

I think it did or they created an imbalance between what was available and how many there were.

It is interesting to note that famines were, maybe not common, well known.

They're at the back of the scales I couldn't get a photograph that actually showed them. I contacted Rob who recommended filling them with epoxy or sending it back to him to sort and pay for postage.

    Crusader cup mk2

I realise this is quite diverse from the original post. I made the belt out of interest and carry this when going on a longer dog walk for exercise. The small pouch is a multitool, and a few bits and pieces. The larger pouch a Helikon Bandicoot slides along the belt as needed to access and...

You owning stuff Vs Stuff Owning You.

I am very guilty of this I'm afraid. Something I've challenged myself on a number of times and I've taken action disposing of things but there is always a draw back. I do understand some of the reasoning that goes on and whilst I've not exactly come to terms with it I do understand it better...

    Morocco

We did similar during a port visit to Jordan, a visit to Wadi Rum and Lawrence of Arabia's 'oasis', a meal cooked in the sand with hot stones, a night under the stars or in a tent. Followed by a visit to Petra. I've been to Morocco a few times north and Atlantic coast, lovely place, people...

    Drinking "wild" water

I've said it before I'm sure I remember one of the Trail magazine journo's 'Graham' something did a bit of research with Leeds Uni in the Lake District. They found, much to the guys surprise, a lot of the water in the hills was quite badly polluted and full of nasties. If I remember rightly...

    Drinking "wild" water

I had a bad experience with water on Dartmoor and regard it's streams and rivers as denizens of poison. Even the military take bowsers in so troops don't get sick, they did when I was there anyway. I would boil then add tablets to be on the safe side. Generally unless I'm going a short walk I...

Beaver ( Castor Fiber ) Sign

We've lots up them by me, still haven't located a den for them, in the location there's unlikely to be a lodge. I have them on a trail cam but last week we actually saw one swimming. Lost sight of it but when looking at the mobile footage it dove leaving barely a ripple. They've dropped a lot...
