    Wood ID please

Yup, eucalyptus. I've got three gum trees in my garden (a legacy from a previous occupant...) and the bark looks very similar. It is known as a poor wood for burning.

    Adz from old tools

There is a blacksmith just off the A33 at Stratfield Saye - I've never been in but it might be the sort of project they'd like to help with. It's just down from the petrol station if you know where that is? I agree that it'd be a nice thing to do with a keepsake...

    Chainsaw Training

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum - seemed like the best one to me... I've managed to secure access and firewood rights in a broadleaf wood owned by a neighbour of mine. There is enough wood in there to last me for many years - it hasn't been managed in a long time. The snag is that the...

Lets hear your workspace tidy tips.

Google Knolling - the basic premis is that when you go to put it on a bench, always put it at 90 degrees to the edge of the bench, and always try to tessolate (sp?) tools so they are neatly laid out. It takes about 10% more effort to do! but makes the work area look much neater and you can pick...

My traditional kit: canvas and leather!

Nice kit you have - I've always favoured lightweight and modern materials but I can definitely see the benefit of more traditional kit as well. Did you import the Frosts River kit from the US, or have you found a source this side of the pond?

    Rent or own

We (well, the building society) own our home. I couldn't think of a dwelling as 'home' if I rented. We rented from a Housing Association for a few years to save a deposit, then bought a three bedroom ex-council house just before the price slump in 2007. We were lucky that prices recovered by...

Any night shift workers on here?

I've worked rolling nightshifts for 11 years - no magic trick to tolerating them - I just eat when I'm hungry, and tend to get through about a box of cereal per day! (When you wake up you have cereal, and when you get home from work it's breakfast time so you have cereal!) Eating well is very...
