I got a vango ultralite 900 for my boy last year and I must admit I was quite impressed with it, give it a look.

I'd wax it personally with either greenland wax or barbour wax. Nikwax is not all that effective in my experience.

In the winter/autumn I wear a dutch army trapper style hat and have had about three of them over the part 15 years. They are excellent hats, versatile and cheap. I have taken to waxing the outside of it with some Greenland wax to add a bit of water repellency.

I have the predator and I'd echo what ozzy said, it's a fantastic pack but you wouldn't want to walk miles and miles with it fully loaded. I got it for the versatility of all the attachment points etc. and the different side pouches you can attach. never had cause to regret it.

I too have emailed them and got no reply. They do turn up on eBay or a quick google should bring up some army surplus shops that have them. As for size, small is huge and they go up from there.

That's reassuring. I intended to wax it. I take a 180/104 in the british army smock so ordered 104/108 hope it will be the right fit. Looks in very good condition and described as such.

Just ordered an Austrian army M65 type jacket (not the goretex one). Does anyone know if they are any good. They look pretty well made etc.

+1 for Thermarest prolite. With the weight and space you save you can pack a warmer sleeping bag or extra jumper.

I've got the Haglofs Essen jacket, badically the same thing and it is excellent, warm, windproof, surprisingly water resistant given what it is, and super light. Pricey but if you can stretch to it you won't regret it.
