Very nice bit of work there. I like the look of the height of the scandi grind.
A slightly higher grind with a shallower angle works well i think on thicker stock.
His Mums not at all well and hes still suffering with his arthritis and eyesight but fair play he found us at EM and is finding new motivation to get back into it despite it all. Hes still been quietly modding and some of his rustic creations are outstanding

Yes D2 is high-carbon but also high-chromium so classed as a semi-stainless i believe.
With a good heat treat takes and keeps a wicked edge. its one of my favourites.
Thinking about it further two of my favourite tools have a very minimal ricasso which for me is fine. Minimal enough that i dont really register them as they dont get in the way. But enough to suit how I use and maintain a knife.

Its always odd how at the time you think youre trading up for the next greatest thing and end up going back to what worked the best for you after all. (and wasting a few quid in the process) but thats the learning curve i guess.
Having used the cobalt steel there was a tiny noticable difference in edge retention at my basic usage level, But pound for pound just in my humble opinion the standard VG10 version is still Hard to beat if you want an F1. Also These get moved around quite a bit second hand as a convex grind...
I sold the pro earlier in the year. Found the extra stock on the pro just a bit too thick. Made it a bit clumpy. And work requiring finer angles was a bit awkward.
Im always sortbof one in one out with my knife as i can only usually afford to keep what I use.
Sometimes i overstretch a little...
