New Knife Ideas - Queries Stainless Steels

Not so on mine - both blades have the same finish, but the spine profile is different. The straight edge blade on my Wave has a secondary grind on the spine (not sharp, and delivered like that from the factory), and are therefore not square. The serated blade throws a good shower of sparks...

    Sharpening a convex grind knife

Congratulations with your Fällkniven F1 - its a good knife. For sharpening you need some "Hoodoohones" - they are very good for convex sharpening, and I guess that Hoodoo himself will put some pics here next time he visit BushcraftUK. Also check this link http://home.nycap.rr.com/sosak/convex.htm

    Bow Timber

Try Murray Gaskins - I've bought from him before and his wood is good. http://www.murraygaskins.com/ Shipping prices are perhaps a bit high, but if you buy billets he can ship by regular postal service (about 40 US$ as far as I remember from last time I bought wood from him - it's quite a...

    Can you id this jacket?

The best :biggthump (and no, I'm not Norwegian although I live here), but Norwegian prices are real bad  ..... but then you have an excuse for a trip to the island of Spitsbergen where you get a lot cheaper prices and no tax :o):

    How much water?

Depends on where I'm travelling. In Norway I rarely carry more than 1 liter (sometimes 2) in an old danish army waterbottle as it usually is easy to get nice clear and fresh water almost anywhere in the mountains or woods. It's usually not even necessary to use any filters, purifying tablets or...

    Top ten plants

I have never ever heard that dandelion is poisonous in such a way as being harmful to eat, drink or use as a medicinal herb! In fact I have heard the exact opposite : “Dandelion is one of the most complete plant foods on earth. All the vital nutrients are conveniently contained in a single...

    German Parkas Ideal For Bushcraft?

Funny thing ! Lots of south africans in the hunting industry - both black and white - use these parkas.

    Bison Bushcraft Knife

Nice knife and nice sheath - I like those Bison knives a lot. The scandi "belt loop system" is, as Martyn and a couple of others have pointed out in this thread, a nice way of preventing getting jabbed by the knifehandle when you sit down in your car, next to the campfire or anywhere else for...

how long is your bushcraft knife?

I find the Mora knives to be very good knives for bushcraft, but I agree that sometimes something wider and longer would be preferable (then again, you can get the moras in different lengths - at least the standard model with red wood handle). I like blades between 8-12 cm long, and the majority...

    Minimal bedding

I've used a blanket when in Southern Africa (well sleping bags also depending on where I sleep - in the Drakensberg at winter it is not funny only having a blanket), and sometimes just a skin when I was a kid running about with the swazi and zulu boys herding cattle and learning bushcraft skills

    Best thing about bivvying ...

I don't think they have any distributors outside Scandinavia (besides Norway, they are available in a few shops in Sweden, Denmark and Greenland), but you are able to buy directly from the factory.
