Fallkniven H1- any info?

It is a full-tang, micarta & VG10 one that I picked up used a long time ago. Here I think. The standard F1 isn't full-tang (as you know) and has a slightly different, burlier grind. The H1 is the knife I keep in the garage for all jobs. It is great, though I have thinned the stock behind the edge over time. I found a blank full-tang H1 a little while ago, among the crap. Going to handle it over the next few weeks.

Are there any long-term users of a Fallkniven H1 out there who'd be willing to share their experiences? I like the F1's steel but don't find the handle comfortable. I think the H1 might be the answer.

(Also, does anyone near Inverness or Elgin own an H1 they'd be willing to let me try?)

Had a couple in both steel options. Very comfortable handle -in shape and material (softer than the F1/A1 etc)

Knife a bit thick really for camp or food prep, but not too obtuse as it's spine thickness suggests.

Would be great at 4mm or even 3.5mm!

I have the F1 in a couple of variations, and the H1 looks very similar. Fallkniven are superb quality, but I would stay away from the very fancy steels as I found they are too hard in the centre and chip quite easily. Get the basic version (I think VG10?) and you can't go wrong.
That's only if you really want to pay for them though. My Fallkniven times are well in the past; now I just use Opinels. They fold, they lock open, they are actually way sharper than an F1 and hold the edge better, and way better for hunting purposes. They also come at around 10 Opinels per F1, so I carry 2 and have a bagful at home and my bothy. Also much lighter and -as much as they don't seem to be- they are indestructible if used for what they are meant to be used.
If the Opinel can't do it, then it's time for the Bahco Laplander or the hatchet to come out; right tool for the job, and I think there is no 'one knife to rule them all'.
