I made rowan and apple jelly today; we're having a really heavy fruit year.
The rowans were huge, and a deep red colour. Not as bitter as usual either.

In Finland we have made wine of Sorbus.
And children use (at least in my youth) the berries as ammunition for blowgun.

Yay! Why did I never use Rowan berries in my pea shooter??? There was a missed opportunity.

I tried to make rowan wine once. I had a cat at the time. The cloth covered bucket was stood in the kitchen and kitty decided it would be a good place to jump up on. Result, one pinkish cat, and the newly fermenting wine all over the floor!
Just found a few berries myself for rowan and apple jelly.
The elderberries are non existant this year, all been eaten by the birds before I got any. Second year I've not got any as the council cut most of my foraging spots back last year, litteraly as they were ripening. Regrowth hasn't put on much this year due to the drought, so berries were scarce anyway .
Rowan jelly is good with venison too

In the finnish translation of the story about the fox and sour grapes it is rowanberries that the fox tries to reach. Happamia sanoi kettu pihlajanmarjoista.

Oh by the way; in Finland we have a marmalade candy that originally when they started makeing it in 1895 contained rowanberry. Sometime after WWII they stopped using berries and started using artificial aromas instead.
