Hi All,

It has been a long time since I tortured some sticks so in an effort to reduce my pile of "maybe" staves I made this. Its a bit of wych elm that must be 10+ years old. It has sat covered in dust trying its best not to look like fancy kindlin for a long time and just managed to scrape its self into being a bow. Pulls around 30 ish at 26 so a joy to shoot. Natural slight RD profile and takes about an inch of follow that disappears after a few minutes. Water buffalo horn tips and a leather grip. Finished with several coats of Tru-oil to make the most the less fancy white wood.

Cheers all,

Absolutely beautiful! I have switched entirely over to flat-bows now, so much more satisfying. I have a number of woods seasoning as possibles but, sadly, no wych elm. I do have wych elm in the wood so maybe one will come down in a storm sometime soon :)

30# is a nice weight I think - probably close to what the Meso folk would have used for small game like geese, hare, etc. based on my studies.

Thanks.

I usually end up with flat bows due to wood selection. That and I just prefer the look of them, the different things you can play with such as recurve type etc.

30# is more than enough as if I'm honest with my self I'm just not an archer. Yes I love to fling a few arrows when in the woods but I wouldn't really just go out to shoot all day. I have bows at 40 ish which I can shoot for a little bit before form falls to bits and bows in the 60s which are just a gimic in regards to my draw abilities,

I would magine 30 being more than ample for small game.

Very nice looking design. Bet it is pretty fast for its weight. Nice light tips...modernised Holmegaard
Cheers, it is pretty quick but still a bit over built as I wanted something new to archery can pickup and try. Extra length for those who can't put their muscles away :)

What, no full draw picture? :notworthy2:

Very nice.

I shall get one of the kids to take a photo :)

I would usually have one from on the tree but it was mostly made by feel which is easier to do at this weight. Also has a bit of limb twist so from one side one limb looks stiff, turn it over and the other limb looks stiff lol.
