Has anybody here used Ebuyer?

I'm looking for a new pooter and they have some good prices, but I'm always a bit wary and stick to the old adage of "if it looks too good.......", so thought I'd ask the hive mind for your experiences.

I haven’t used them and I don’t think that I would. Good and bad reviews look about equal.

There seems to be a view that if everything goes right then they are OK but if it doesn’t they are a pain.

I would normally pay cash and I certainly wouldn’t enter into a financial agreement with them (or any on line financial system) I’d borrow from a well known local source like my bank and use that.

I've used Ebuyer for a number of bits of technology over the years and found them very good. They have always been responsive, offered very competitive prices, and I've never had any issues.

I used them years ago for buying the bits to build my PC. Didn’t have a problem with the then.
@Pattree , where did you find the reviews you mention?

They would have been my first stop when I need to build a computer to replace mine to run Windows 11. Don’t think I have had recent experience with them.

Ditto, I used them around 2004 to buy parts to build a PC, then bought a printer from them. The PC only lasted 18 years :p but the printer is still going.

Ok, to be clear, my company built technology for a living. PCs were rare (usually just an interface to something else we were doing) but when we did we were happy to buy from Ebuyer - responsive, competitive, and knowledgeable.

Like Chris, I built my own performance machine entirely from components from Ebuyer a few years ago and have had no problems. I would recommend them above a number of other suppliers.

A family member shrugged and said he didn’t rate them. He’s a computer programmer and tech nerd. He pointed me here saying what I said above: when things go right they’re fine. When they Don’t they’re a pain.

While I did not find that Reddit convincing, 2 year old thread, two negative experiences posted, I found this review page more negative than, but had not heard of them and there were still only a few hundred reviews, which is low considering Ebuyer is said to be the largest UK retailer of computer hardware.
I always remember that very few people post reviews of good experiences, there is more motivation to post about poor experiences.

Here it looks like about three years ago the reviews switched from mostly high scoring to only one star.

BUT, Trust Pilot has both a lot of reviews and the sort of balance I was expecting for a large business. The one star portion is sobering reading though.

As said, looks fine if fine, but horrible if you have a problem.

Which all raises the question of where else to shop. Overclockers has always struck me as more of a specialty gamer retailer, and their one star reviews are often similar to Ebuyer. There are definitely problems with next day shipping, shipping companies, and pricing of GPUs.

Ebuyer’s been around forever and has been fine in the past when I’ve used it. Is there anything you’re looking at specifically that seems too good to be true? Would be happy to cast my professional IT nerd eye over it if it can be of service.
