I got this alert too, but it's still £34.99 in the app to subscribe for a year. Not quite sure what's going on.
Edit: It's for new subscribers only. I can't recall ever having subscribed before, but maybe a free trial a while ago. Alas. I still prefer the paper maps which have a download code on the back to give you access to the premium OS digital map for the area. But at £17.49 I'd be going for it as a useful back up for spontaneous areas!
