    What light weight stove??

The stove needs to be matched with the pot e.g. IME the whitebox is pretty inefficient with a small diameter pot. The wind shield is the most important thing with any alcohol stove. Have a browse through ZenStoves it has lots of info on different types of stoves & set ups.

    What light weight stove??

Fuel gels are basically ethanol in a water based gel, hence has a lower calorific value. Some of the products are 25% water.

    Tiny Meths Bottle

The Vargo 250ml bottle are pretty good but a little pricey. Boots do a Contact lens solution in 125ml bottles for ~£1.25 squirty top, pretty good too.

    Sil nylon repair

I repaired a small hole in the Trailstar by gluing a circular patch on with thinned down Silnet (1:1 white spirit), used a couple of bits of perspex to press it into place while it cured. Worked like magic and almost invisible, it's the technique that MLD recommend.

    Lightweight Bivvi advice needed!

The loops on light weight bivis are NOT for pegging out but for hanging to dry, they'll probably get ripped out if you do. A couple of point to bear in mind with the Terra Nova bag: 1) Iit doesn't have any mesh to keep the bugs at bay 2) It's constructed 100% from DWR nylon, laying in any...

    MLD Trailstar

I find 120cm good for use with a nest in summer, my most routine pitch is 110cm. Good luck with the seam sealing, I followed Martin's advice and thinned down the sealant with white spirits and used a small disposable brush with the bristles cut down to about 1/2", no masking, worked great.

Tip: reduce the angle on the 'door' guy and you'll get a tauter pitch e.g. reduce the height of the pole or move it away from the 'door'

Kovea Spider - Lightweight Gas Stove - First Impressions

Concur with the general comments, the spider is a good all rounder, especially appropriate in winter. I managed to come up with a simple design for a 360 deg windscreen, which improves efficiency, to suit smaller pots like the MSR Titan etc. I made from 0.15mm thick aluminium sheet but a...

    MLD Trailstar

Yup, the very same, got inquisitive at the traffic to my blog from BCUK. The BearPaws Pyranet is OK, I got the Trailstar mods and 10" solid walls (to cut down the drafts) weigh is around 440g including tie outs. It's probably not as good as the Oookworks as it can be a bit of a faff get the...

    MLD Trailstar

Yes the TGOC 13 crossing was cold, wet and windy; but it Scotland in May that’s what to expect! I must be the ‘exception’; I didn’t have any issues with condensation with the TS on the TGOC 13 crossing. Generally was pitching at 120cm as I was using the BearPaw Pyranet Nest but did drop...
