    Lightweight cook setup

I usually just use my jetboil with a small gas cartridge. Light and compact with no messing around.

    Watch repair vs new watch?

Solar watches have betteries just like any other, they simply keep charged in the sun. You should be able to send it to a decent watchmaker and have them replace it and it'll work just fine. If you are considering a new watch then i'm a casio fan, in particular i've been wearing the below going...

Are GPS units really necessary these days?

A good solid GPS unit is far better built to take a beating than any phone i've ever had. I have an old garmin e-trex that's taken a serious beating over the years, and so long as i put new batteries in it it's good to go. I find the argument of you don't need a GPS because you should be able...

    PLCE bergan molle panel ?

Those strips aren't really molle, so you'll have a hard time finding a readymade pouch to fit. They're there for threading utility straps through to attach kit, usually the rollmat to the front if you're using both side pouches. The new issue ones do have molle on them but are a different...

    Sleeping Mat Repair

Bike tyre puncture kits have worked the best for me in the past. https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-parts/inner-tubes/halfords-puncture-repair-kit-661102.html Make sure to prep the area well, clean with alcohol etc.. and if you can keep pressure on the patch while it cures.

    Fire Dragon Fuel

They work fine for heating up boil in the bag meals and using the leftover water for a brew. Anyone trying to "cook" on them might be disappointed, especially compared to gas etc..

    Sleeping mat

Alpkit dirtbag is the best inflating mat I've used, not particularly small but no larger than a foam mat when rolled up. Buy a bike tyre puncture kit to take with you, the best thing for sealing any holes etc.. in them imo...

    Dry bags

I use both. My main liner is an ortlieb bag. Then i have the colour coded different sized exped bags inside it with my kit packed away. This makes it very easy to find kit as i know what colour my spare socks are in, my warm kit, my meals etc... . Just makes admin a bit easier for me...

    New hiking boots, reccomendations

I'd really recommend a pair of salomons paired with a proper insole; https://www.cotswoldoutdoor.com/p/salomon-mens-x-ultra-4-mid-gtx-boots-B1134357.html?colour=3623 Make sure to buy the insole 1st, it's crucial to take them with you to try on the boots. Also be sure to wear the same type of...

Wear resistance of fabrics in waterproofs, esp. Paramo

Goretex itself is just a very thin membrane, it's the fabric bonded to it that's really going to decide how durable it is. I have a paramo smock, and while it's been waterproof (enough) it's quite warm, more like wearing a thin fleece along with the jacket. It's pretty ideal for use in the...

    Wood stove

I got a cheap one from ebay some time ago, it works well with a Trangia burner, and i can feed it sticks if i run out of fuel.

Mil-tec Swedish mess kit clone, it’s alright.

I keep mine in the car with a tin of chafing fuel in it, wrapped in a sleeping bag with 2 tins of food and a few bottles of water. It's came in handy once before when the snow came in and I was stuck up a b road trying to get home, had an unexpected overnight waiting for the worst of it to melt.

    Buffalo 4S Outer sleeping bag

I still have one i bought going on 20 years ago now in the loft. I used it for a few years and they have some advantages; They are quick to dry out if they get soaked You can crawl into one dripping wet and the bag will dry out over night The material is durable They can be washed at home...

Beat army surplus Bergen for hiking?

Personally i'd recommend the airzone series from lowe alpine; https://www.tiso.com/earsg2ti0950/lowe-alpine-airzone-trail-c-unisex-green/00246981/?utm_source=organic_shopping&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvZWem7iGgwMVv4tQBh1kWg1_EAQYBSABEgJb1vD_BwE...
