    Harvesting Horse's Hoof Fungus

Let me know how you fare, I tried to make amadou a couple of times most of the times I ended up with quite hard, brittle pieces of the trama layer that smouldered but needed an open flame to light. I found the age of the fungus to be an important factor, if you can't depress the cuticle with...

    Improvised drip line

Oh my, it's surprising how much water actually manages to seep down on the webbing. In a pinch you could actually put a container beneath the drip line, make use of rain one way or another ;) Thanks for the advice, definitely adding a string or two before the hook then!

    Improvised drip line

Will do, thanks for the advice. Would you tie the piece string onto the s hook or on the webbing? Or as a last resort in between the s hook and the hammock?

    Improvised drip line

Thanks :) Gave it a go last night, one of the first summer nights here in the Netherlands, no rain but put up an extra bit of string up as you suggested. Slept safe and sound :)

    Improvised drip line

Quickie question. I fashioned a drip line for my DD Frontline hammock this morning using some spare things I had lying around, stainless steel hooks and some 6mm sailing rope, in the hope I don't have to buy new carabiners for this purpose. I passed a loop of cord through the channel...

    Advice on saw needed.

I have one of these: http://www.militarycollectibles4u.nl/a-28974481/gereedschap/demontabele-zaag-handig-om-mee-te-nemen/ Very light and sturdy, comes with a blade but takes a standard Bahco saw blade. You store all the components in the metal tube and screw it shut, leaving you with a tube of...

    Mora 163 patina

I looked up the Mora 173 and the 188, those look very promising. Couldn't find the Diamond #271 though! I hope it's a residue then and they didn't cook it. I guess there's not really any other way to find out but starting using it. I'll let you know about the result! Thanks for taking the time...

    Old sewing machines (pic heavy)

Thanks! It was a real find :) I believe it's a Singer from 1933, the serial number is Y9067003. Do you have experience with this particular model?

    Old sewing machines (pic heavy)

About six months ago I found this beauty, a Singer 66K with a motor, in an antiques store in Scotland for £20. I remember seeing it coming to life again after some heavy oiling in the store. The owner was convinced it would run again, "Singers never never never ever break!" And it did come to...

    Mora 163 patina

I see, thanks for the clarification! Out of curiosity, what makes the steel turn blue after tempering?

    Mora 163 patina

The blade is razor sharp, but I didn't dare to hone or use it yet as I may want to return it. I took a picture of the blade, hope this helps! Thanks :)

    Mora 163 patina

Hi everyone, I ordered a new Mora 163 hook knife to toy around with, mainly because I found the 164 a bit too curvy. Didn't have a lot of budget so thought 163 was a good option. Today I received the knife and was surprised by a blue/purple patina covering the entire blade. Not what I...

Light weight tent for Tall person

I'm 1,90 tall and sometimes carry a Nordisk Telemark 2, it's big enough for me and probably for you too. It has a tiny porch and an inner space to fit two people when you're friendly or sleeps one comfortably with pack and everything. The height allows me to sit cross-legged, but that's about...

    Colour of sleeping bag liner

    Nesting bottle and mug

The 40 oz Klean Kanteen with the wide opening fits the Olicamp Space Saver Cup perfectly, very snug and no rattle. The flat cap that Klean Kanteen sells makes it just a little more compact. I use this for day trips when I only take one bottle and I'm able to start a small fire for a cup of tea...
