Well, I guess we'll just have to get a lot of the old members back then... keep to what worked best before: members reporting on things they had done that were informative and entertaining, days out, how to's, look what I found, here's what I made sort of stuff.
I've just logged on here for the...
So. not. cool.
Looks like you had a really nice finish on the haft as well, I too did the camp craft course and i know the amount of hours that go into getting the right texture on the helve, that just sucks so bad, abused in so many ways without anyone giving a second thought or owning up.

That would look really unique, worth a try. The black layer is just a strip of thin black leather, i'll edit that into the post. It just ensures a slightly stronger fit between the wood and the brass.

Thought you might pick up on that Robbi :)
I managed to get my hands on some leather, basic tools, thread and dye, just need to read up sufficiently on how to do it and then give it a try, not sue how it will turn out though!

Hello Folks!
It has been quite some time since I contributed anything on this forum, so I best re-introduce myself. I'm Patrick, I'm a 2nd year forestry student at University College Dublin and I really enjoy bushcraft and traditional crafts, especially the sort that involves playing with axes...
In the long term its probably best to replace it, its useful thing to learn as well for the future and a good carving project if you want to make one from scratch.
hope it works out
