I'm with you on this one - there's nothing like finding some lovely shrooms only to discover they are not edible. Found some weeping boletes and birch boletes up here on the Mendips the other day, but when I fried them up but they had too many maggots in them. Very dissapointed!

In essence you would be on an Atkins diet! Carbs are a problem, so you would be spending a lot of your time looking for, preparing and cooking roots from lesser celendine, silverweed, burdock, pignut and typha. Snails, worms, beetles and grubs (even snake if you can find them) would all be fair...

Burdock leaves, roots and stems are all edible and it'll be fine for cooking with. They have mild antiseptic and diurectic properties, so the only advice is don't eat too much of it (or drink too much burdock beer!) Cheers Ady
