I have one of these and a bunch of top of the line wool stuff from places like Filson. I think you can get similar warmth and function by combining Norwegian style sweaters with a thick wool shirt for the outer. You could even do two wool sweaters of one medium or light and a heavier outer one...

Obviously the G-1000 has wax, but they both seem to made of a similar mix of poly-cotton. I was wondering if anyone here has owned both and could make list pros and cons of each.

Aside from the 100% cotton British smocks, does anyone wear (Gasp!!!) 100% cotton jackets? I realize most people and books say this is a no-no, but I find certain types quite durable, comfortable, and obviously better around fires. If you do wear one, what kind is it?

I'm about to order some of the 5.11 TDU ripstop (poly/cotton) pants. I'm more concerned with the length. They come in short, regular, long. I'm about 6 feet tall and like my pants to have some extra length. Any suggestions on what length I should get?
