I have 52 editions of Landrover Owner Magazine spanning from June 1997 to July 2002, with just a couple of editions missing. Any offers? I'm afraid the buyer will have to collect...far to heavy to post!

    Cordage

Yeah the flowers are propellor shaped but because its a climber the foilage of the shrubs etc that it's growing on would mask the flowers to a certain extent, the downy seed heads are more prominent because they form in Autumn by which time the leaves are beginning to fall from the host plants...

    Panic Attacks in woods

If anyone else suffers from the same problem I suggest NOT watching either "The Blaire Witch Project" or "Dog Soldiers" before sleeping out. If you weren't worried about strange noises etc beforehand these films would change that.

    Cordage

Hi Bear The wild native form of clematis clematis vitalba, also known as Old Man's Beard and Travellers Joy, is very common particularly in the South. You can see the hedgrows alongside the roads throughout the winter, covered in a mass of the white downy seed heads. You'll find the plant...

    Gransfors Bruks sharpening

I bought a Gransfors sharpening stone a few weeks ago and its very good. Being smallish its great for using in the field... for knives as well as axes. The rubber casing makes holding it easier when your hands are cold and wet. It does seem a bit pricey probably just a reflection of the fact...

    new,disillusioned & lonely

Hi Mac I think you are already doing the right things to get yourself out of your dilemna. By doing voluntary conservation work you are getting yourself out in the countryside, meeting like minded people, getting yourself noticed by possible employers and maybe even being in the right place to...

    Fire by chemical means

You're absolutely right Peter, but with potassium permanganate and sugar that is what you are after. Grinding the two together vigorously you can get the mixture to ignite spontaneously without needing a fire steel etc. I would, however, advise against trying this indoors and use relatively...

    Fire by chemical means

9:1 is the figure always quoted, but anything between that and 1:1 should work. You do need to grind it really firmly to get it to work, but work it does.

    Cordage

There are loads of different plants to try. I particularly like clematis bark which naturally peels off in strips in winter and can be gathered in large quantities. You can make everything from fine twine to something resembling a tow rope with it. Sweet chesnut bark is also very good, use it...

    What, no bog roll..........

Comfrey leaves are meant to by good and I reckon Mullein would work (both are a bit furry-extra grip if you know what I mean). There is an American web site I stumbled across ages ago which had several pages devoted to the subject, I'll have to try and track it down.
