    RE: Alone in the Wilderness

You hit it square there. Every so often, the 2 hr Dick Proenneke documentary will be on TV. Good stuff and a very tough old man.

Are you embarrassed in what you do ?

Where I live, at your age, to not head out in the hills is considered odd. Do it now cause the task of putting food on the table and keeping a roof over the heads of your family will occupy most of your time later. Some of my fondest memories from that period in my youth was spent in the...

    American shopping list

Well, did you buy it? I think that was a bit high. You could have probably knocked a couple of hundred off if you shopped around. I've got one around here somewhere, its not for sale. But I have an AR-15 you might be interested in. It comes with 6 mags and 1200 rounds of FMJ.

    American shopping list

Its a big country, where are you going? And how long you gonna be here? Walmart is a good place to start as almost every town has one. Just last night I was looking at the knives and couldnt believe that they were selling Buck 110s for $29. Try checking out some pawn shops as well...

    Grohmann No 1 Belt Knife

I like the style of the Canadian belt knife. I have a Grohmann, its a versatile tool. I also have a clone by R Murphy www.rmurphyknives.com that is carbon steel and every bit as useful. The price is much less than the Grohmann yet still a good little knife. www.knivesaustralia.com.au has...

    Fear of the dark

Well, I do reload so it wouldnt be a big deal to cast 1 or 20 but with the price of silver, a couple of wooden stakes will have to suffice. Pango, that officer type sounds like he was suffering from PTSD. Never ever just start shooting at sounds but why run from some wacko howling like a dog...

    knife scales; micarta vs wood?

If you want some elk or deer antler, I can take a look in the backyard to see if I've got anything suitable and not too weathered.

    Fear of the dark

Although I realize its not an option there but I carry a firearm, pistol at very least, to ensure I stay at the top of the food chain and that includes humans. There's some real nuts out there. However, most with prior military time will say "the darkness is my friend".

    knife scales; micarta vs wood?

A regular seller on the big auction site has many stabilized wood scales at very reasonable prices. If that's what you want and he wont ship to the UK, I would be happy to forward.
