I know that there are good unmarked axes, but for my first I didn't want to end up with a cheap axe that didn't work well. If I'd bought that one on trademe, I could have ended up with a good hatchet. But I might not have, as well. So, I've just bought a vintage plumb scout hatchet...

Guys, I'd love to get a brand new hatchet or axe, but over here the prices in the shops are just to expensive.

If an axe is made in Sweden, chances are that it's good quality, right?

Santaman2000: thanks for your clear, to the point, and informative answer. :) Markheolddu: I'm mostly going to be use it for chopping and splitting firewood. It would be good if it could carve passably as well, but that doesn't matter as much.
