    Heavy duty hammock

Very interesting info this. Good thread. I'm a big lad too and have been worried about capacity of some of the hammocks and it has put me off giving it a try. That CAMTOA hammock seems like a good buy. Shame they didn't do it in a green colour. However, I also found this hammock which looks...

Christmas goody bag for the boy

Even better! 3 birds with one stone... Much obliged. I reckon he'll like this present.

Christmas goody bag for the boy

Thanks for everyone's input, loads of good ideas. I reckon I'll add magnifying glass, whistle and maybe ferro rod to the list, though I might have to keep it for safety when we're not out and about. He can be an 'enthusiastic' little guy when he wants to be and I can see the carpet going up...

Christmas goody bag for the boy

Thanks guys. Great minds... :) We got the binoculars, but I'm definitely liking the tarp/groundsheet/hammock idea. I reckon he'd love that. I saw a little 8ft sq camo net online somewhere and I had half a mind to get it for dens and things. Thought he might like that too. A Collins book about...

Christmas goody bag for the boy

Evening all My young son and I are spending a lot of time outdoors these days. General format of a day out is go for a mooch about, take some photos, cook some lunch, have a brew, have a go at some targets with the catapult or maybe a bit of fishing or shelter building or something...

    Some of my leather bags.

These are really great. Good work! I've just been watching a tutorial on YouTube for the last couple of hours about making a leather bag. I reckon I'm going tool shopping on payday. Quite fancy making one for fly fishing.

A couple of natural catapults I made

Thanks lads! Really enjoyed making these, got a few more forks when I went out for a walk today so I'll post the new ones when I get round to making them. Initial cuts with the Bahco, rough carved with the Mora, shaped with the Dremel (cheating I know) and finally sanded and polished by hand...

A couple of natural catapults I made

Cheers dwardo! The wood on the bottom one has finished up really pale, def like bone. This was the first one I did. both sanded to 2000 grit so smooth as glass. Hard work though! Haha

A couple of natural catapults I made

Thanks Muddypaws. I was trying to keep to the classic sort of style with these. I might try some more complicated if I find the right fork... I'd like to do one with a palm swell or finger grooves too.

A couple of natural catapults I made

Thanks! The first, I think, is sycamore but couldn't 100% sure as the blank was taken from branches with no leaves. This wood was easy to work with. I'm making another couple with ash at the minute and it seems to be really hard by comparison. The second, I think, was hawthorn. Lots of...

A couple of natural catapults I made

Just wanted to show you a couple of catapults I've made over the last weekend when the weather has been terrible and I've not been able to get out. Not that great at identifying trees yet but I think the first one is sycamore and the other (completed catapult) is hawthorn. The council have been...

    Hello Everyone

Hi, I'm Aaron and I'm based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Been reading the forum for ages so thought it was about time that I joined up. I like to spend as much of my spare time as possible outside, preferably in the woods or by the coast. My main outdoor hobby is photography though I do a bit...
