Im looking forward to it myself, having known Patrick for a number of years Im more used to sipping a brew round the fire while listening to him than eating an ice cream in the warm and dry!

I was running out the door last night when I posted this, I probably should have mentioned that Bespoke Community Development Company who is running the event, aside from being non profit, is set up to engage the community in interacting with the outdoors for health, recreation and learning. Woodsmith Store

Hi everyone, Been a while since my last post so thought I better do something about that, and passing on a few good words about the service and selection of goods at the Wood Smiths Store (www.woodsmithstore.co.uk) seems a good way. Having spoke to a very helpful person on the phone I had no...

    German Hand Axe

When I was involved in a project to construct a dug out log boat, the expert who was an ancient wood working specialist (often seen on time team!) one of his axes was an East German axe not to dissimilar to the one you have linked to. He reckoned the steel was some of the best he had ever used...

    The Wilderness Debate

Hi all By accident browsing google books I came across an interesting title, ‘The Wilderness Debate’. Some further research led me to reflect on my thoughts on the concept of the ‘wilderness’ what it means to me and other people and how we all use it. What I’m getting at is that for...

    Voice Your Opinion

Yes mate, they were more or less equally sharp. The trouble I found was that the serrations caused the cut to 'stall' then skip leaving the cord only partially cut. The plain edge required less effort and cut much more cleanly.

    Voice Your Opinion

Was curious about people’s views on the following little experiment I carried out. I needed a knife to cut rope/webbing etc. In an emergency situation for white water kayaking. This prompted me to conduct a little comparison between a plain edge knife and a 50/50 plain/serrated edge blade...

    Fishing rigs

Bushscout, the problem with wooden hooks is that they soften up in the water after a short period of time!

    Fishing rigs

Oh yeah, and what fiber are you using for your lines?

    Fishing rigs

They look awesome. Mind if I ask a couple of questions as after seeing patrickm's fishing stuff in the flesh Im determined to catch a fish using a handcrafted, all natural fishing rig. Im in the process of braiding up lime bark cordage (tedious!) long enough for a line so that angle is covered...

A SEAL Pup Elite and some random skills

Nice one MW. Looks like a real tough knife. Thats what I look for in a knife, something that can take some use and abuse when in the wilds, not something that looks pretty to sit in a cabinet. Thanks for taking the time to post!

    Making Netting From Parachute Cord

Sorry buddy did not mean to criticise. I am rather 'irrational' when it comes to uniformity in netting, spending more time than necessary to get the job done. Any idea how strong a net made as above would be? Strong enough to support 2 adults as a seat?
