How to get seperated from your backpack

I'm lucky because I'm always out and about with my wife, so we both have backpacks. Ok so we don't duplicate everything but between us if one of us lost a backpack then we should just about have enough to cope. We also both carry mobiles on us so one can call emergency services if the other falls off a cliff.
