    Home first aid kit

I have a couple of old TraumaFix dressings I'll be replacing like for like. I'll open up an old one and see what it's like. Some of the other dressings I've examined could do with a larger absorbent pad IMHO for home use where compactness isn't important, but I could buy a few extra plain pads...

    Home first aid kit

No they're not. Similarly to you I know a retired lady who had to wait 11 hours outdoors, with a broken hip when she fell. My frail Mum has had better experience with ambulances being taken to hospital but the care she's received has been very variable. Once I was bullied into collecting her...

    Home first aid kit

When I posted my original question I just wanted to differentiate between a kit you might take out on a walk or to work and a larger kit you don't need to worry about the size. In the end I picked up a standard refill kit, and eye wash kit, some new burn dressings and a couple of trauma...

What wildlife did you spot today?

Not everyone's cup of tea but I picked up and released several dark giant horse flies over the last few days. I find 1 inch long flies quite fun to see and easy to gently catch and release.

    Weather to come.......

You could hold the empty butt up to the sun and look from the inside to see if any light comes in. It could be a split seam, if just a small hole I'd try something like LS-X leak sealer on the inside.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Yes, rotation is simply achieved by putting the new items to the back of the shelf and moving stuff forward. I mainly stock up on what we commonly use when it's on offer or when the shop has items in as some things seem to be poorly stocked. That way I save money and don't have to go shopping...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

I still think there is a distinction between normal living and preparing for something that may never happen. Our pantry has a couple of months of food in it but I know we will use it all, it is not there as a 'just in case' reason. If I kept some freeze dried rations that I had no intention of...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Thinking about this a bit, I'm not sure if being more self reliant (for want of a better phrase) is genetic or passed down from parents or other guardians. I probably picked up some things from my parents but most of my interests I've picked up on my own. Hobbies to start with but then becoming...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

I would define it as camping if you buy the stove for camping, is that wrong? Or to put it another way how many campers with a camping stove would consider themselves preppers? I tend to find people use the name prepper as a bit of an insult or a dismissive term, a bit like when we first...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

That's not prepping it's just living normally. I think most people would have at least had a cupboard or two full of food but these days more people expect to pick up a meal or nip to the shops. We have a well stocked larder because we don't like to spend half our lives keep going to the shops...

    Emergency Preparedness Guides

The story has also been all over the BBC TV news and web site. What it does show is how easy it seems to be to gain access to supposedly secure sites to do what ever people fancy without being challenged or caught. Doesn't bode well for other infrastructure.

What beekeeping related activities did you do recently?

I think your best bet would be to find a local bee keeper who doesn't make their own wax products. There's likely to be a few around you with a large stock of wax they've not got round to doing anything with, it's just finding them. You could see if there's any local bee keeping association near...

    Oak coppice

I've read that as well and the fact the greys are bigger and can't escape to the ends of the branches. The patch of woodland in question though is densely planted with dense canopies so the squirrels are very rarely seen on the ground now and can easily go long distances tree to tree. When I...

What do you lot do for a living?

Do you sell many antiques and have site or anything? I'm half way there in that I've bought a fair few old items, not sold anything so far...

    Oak coppice

The key bit for me is "The research in Scotland suggests that for pine martens to have an impact on grey squirrels, martens have to have been present for many years and occur at relatively high densities. Therefore, it’s likely it will be several years before any impact on grey squirrels is seen...
