Bushcrafter through and through
Hey all. I bought this old canvas rucksack on ebay some time ago for under £20. It is pretty large, has a metal frame, all leather straps, canvas outer with a cotton inside liner. google has found nothing what so ever about this pack. i emailed the seller but got no reply. Here are a few pictures, the brown leather straps you see are ones i have added to mod the pack a little to stabalise the load on the bottom and to fit a bedroll on top.

Can anybody enlighten me more about the origins of this rucksack? im just interested in the history behind it etc.

i plan on adding some more so this pack can carry more things attached to frame and plan on adding a hip belt if possible.

Thanks, Hamish.

German/Austrian, possibly an Alpine version of a service pack?

Cheers
Sack

PS. I vaguely remember Wayland purchasing something similar earlier this year

Relum was a British sports company. They are obviously made for the UK Civvy outdoor market, probably late 50's/60's I should think. Looks decent quality.

Relum is a former tent and outdoor gear manufacturer based in the UK. The company I believe was started by a German guy called Muler, hence the name. They started making scout tents in canvas, so a pack like yours based on a German design would seem a logical product for them to make.
During the 1990's they got into the carp fishing game producing initially dome tents for well known angler Rod Hutchinson, before supplying his whole range of tackle and baits.
They parted company with Rod in the late ninties and was sold to tent manufacturer BCT.
cheers
