its poor form and i think that people who do that sort of thing want to make themselves something they aren't. either to make themselves feel better or for some need they can't fulfill.
whilst irritating they deserve at least a little sympathy that they must tell such mistruths to make them feel better

I know it is sad, it's like a guy I met while I was camping at the north pole. I was just tying my tarp to the pole, when this guy came running by with a polar bear chasing him, after I'd knocked the bear the f##k out we got talking, and he was in a very similar situation. One lie leading to another and now he didn't know what to do, I gave him some sage advice, and pretty much turned his life round. That alone made the year I spent there worthwhile. But that's just me, I live to give!
