Well Mac I don't have to explain myself to you. So unless you have something useful to say, then i'm not in the slightest interested. It isn't "overnight". The course is a whole year. I'm asking for usefull advice and the chance for connections which benefit us both eventually, not for discouragment from someone I don't know and who doesn't know me, ok? So 'with all due respect', stop replying unless it relates to what I'm asking.

Thanks to everyone else with encouragment. Much appreciated!

Calm down bud, when you come on a forum, you will get all sorts of advice, most of it good, but advice is there to be taken or left.

Remember people can be having a bad day, so just take some comments with a pinch of salt. Mac is a cracking guy, he just gets upset that hes not a pretty a me sometimes!!!!!

You are best coming back at comments you dont like with a good laugh, that way we all get on better and keep the crap for the real world..

P.s dont you start shouting at me, cause i will cry and cry and cry......

All the best ma wee angry Mancunian, (are you sure your no Scottish, cause youd fit in up here)

Where the path takes me
I think your problem is you are too specialised. Theres also a lot of competition in IT, and unless you really love computers...its not worth it.

Theres also a lot of competition in Bushcraft instructing.

Have you thought about volenteering for the scouts? Or joining the TA? Not quite the same thing but you will learn stuff, have fun, and above all, make contacts.

Exactly what I was thinking. Other options would be some work with the BTCV or approaching your local council as a voluntary countryside ranger. It would allow you to work your way in so to speak. The Scouts training programme is a recognised management qualification and you could also volunteer to run/work on backwoods courses with the Scouts at a local campsite. A lot of districts run these courses for the young people and you would pick up some tips.

Ash, with all due respect you come across as begging, unwilling to listen to others views and somewhat confrontational.
Remember that this is a forum where opinions are voiced; Everyone here shares a love or interest in bushcraft so dont write off advice because it isnt what you want to hear. Many here have been in your situation or worse and dont complain, they do what they can to improve their situation and work towards their dream.

A little more reading around on here and you will find a wealth of information and advice, info about upcoming free or very low cost regional meets and even the Introductions section where you can post more about yourself, your experience so far and what you hope to achieve instead of starting out by sounding desperate.

I think this point has been made now, as experienced people on this forum, we should perhaps take the higher ground, the boy might just be having a bad day..

Who knows what his situation is, walking a mile in another mans shoes and all that, lets try and be a bit more friendly and welcoming people. We dont want to scare people off just cause we dont like what they say...

Ash,
Realistically, if you want the NCFE qualification you're going to have to find the money for the course.
That means either a job to earn it, or a grant, both of which are going to be difficult to get in this economic climate.
You may have to compromise on the job front in the short term to achieve the long term goals.
There is another way though, Have you thought of approaching a school and offering to help out?
I know a couple of members on this site who have done just that, helping out at a bushcraft school in exchange for teaching experience.
Another thing worth considering, the market seems pretty saturated to me at the moment. I would think the schools will be looking for more than a qualification, they're going to want experience too.
I hope you achieve your goal, but you are going to have to be realistic about how you're going to go about it.

Didn't work with you for sure...

Ash, best of luck in your quest but as has been said you're going to need to sacrifice a bit to get to your goals.

Get some volunteering in with local wildlife or bctv and a wee job for some monies.

atb,
Tom.

What's this about Tam in a tutu?? :lmao:

Ash, I've been right into this malarky for a wee while now and am 22 so basically the same age, I've had the dream about being the instructor (More like the instructed!) but you really have to face reality and realise that this might not happen. You will either need to be very cheap if you get a school set up and really not make much money or you will have to have something that the rest of the bushcraft schools don't due to not just the competition but the reputation of your school.

If you're serious about this then I would really start looking at ways of saving the money and also what else you can do to give you that edge that will make you shine above the competition. A lot can be learned from this site especially if you come on with the right attitude but you really need to live it as much as you can.

I wish you the best of luck mate :)
