Heard a rifle shot nearby when out at dusk today... & met the forest warden

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
Keep an eye out for him next time your up that way and ask what he does with the skins? A possible future source?

I asked our rangers, while I was working with the FC - at least here, all they do is gut and trim the beast, then stick it in cold storage awaiting collection from the contracted dealer. They take the whole thing away, including the skins. Different divisions may have different contracts though.

..I just thought asking a shooter for ID (as a passer by) is very poor advice.

You seem to want to misrepresent what I wrote. I wrote "Did you see some id?". As it turns out, the answer to my question was in the affirmative. That's all there is to it.

I did not write "Did you ask for any ID?" and I did not write anything even remotely like "I advise you to...."

Please try not to be so cranky, there was no need for any of this.

The Forestry Commission employ three types of ranger:
Wildlife Rangers - who basically shoot deer !
Community and Education Rangers - who run events and activities, lead walks, talks and school groups etc
and Conservation Rangers - who monitor the species and ecology of the forest so that forest operations do not cause too much disturbance.
