I'm currently taking a gap year and have many ideas that I want to do over the summer, after I have made some money. The only trouble is I'm really struggling to find a job and this year is now being wasted and I'm ending up in debt. I managed to get a sales job with commission selling make-up but it just doesn't pay at all, even for those who have been working there a while.
I have a CV written along with a very strong and accurate reference, does anyone know of anywhere I could possibly work, starting in January, in London? Maybe somewhere you work in London there are some job variance's?..
Thanks
Ste Carey

post the CV on the likes of jobsite, cvlibrary, reed etc...that way, employers come to you...obviously this doesnt replace searching directly but it takes a lot of the legwork out of the trawling...it worked for me anyway...

When my son was made redundant a couple of years ago he asked me to print off a batch of CV's for him and then he went out door to door on industrial estates and shopping centres talking to everyone he could. Within two weeks he got three job offers. So unlike the chap who recommended posting your CV on a website and "leaving it to employers to come to you" I suggest that being pro-active is always the best route. By all means do both but be cheerful and enthusiastic and show that you really want to work with them and things will start happening.

By the way, my son took a two week break in San Diego before starting the new job he chose and found a beautiful young lady who is now his wife! What's that about clouds and silver linings? Good luck with the job hunting and never give up!

I did say it doesnt replace searching directly ;0)...no one would want to employ someone who sits on theirs and isnt pro-active.

Its difficult out their right now to get a job...be the better than everyone else, do your research on the company (their products, stats etc) and blow their socks off when you go into the interview, it has worked for me everytime so far......but most of all, dont underestimate the "personality" factor.

Good luck, and like Lynx said, dont ever give up.

Have a look at the British Red Cross site for jobs in London, I think they are looking for about 5 staff posts at the moment, not just good for a job but you will have the chance to do all sorts of training which will be great on a CV. Let us know how you get on.
