I have to agree with others, that this probably wont be the last knife you ever make.
I have only 'part made' one knife, by re shaping a long blade into a shorter blade and full tang, and then making the handle from scratch (including felling the oak tree the wood came from). I really want to make another as soon as I can!

I have always wanted to make a parang from a leaf suspension spring, but don't have a forge or anything like that. It is just something I would love to make and own, even though I would have no use for one.........Apart from looking at it and cherishing it forever.

Lol there are some belting stoves on here mines just a generic one! some of them are REALLy creative, I'm really into making stuff at the minute so if
you want anything specific just let me know. I'm going to have a go at a flint and steel striker next i think and then look at doing a couple of knives!! next time i'm going to anneal 5 files at the same time so that i'll have something to keep me going lol

A sensible question on your part, but actually I only had a tiny bit of oak left!

You see I didn't really fancy carrying the whole tree home with me in my pack, so I only took a section about a 20cm long.

The tree had to come down anyway.......I didn't fell it just for that little bit! It was about 15 years old from memory, and was part of a selective thinning.

Can't wait to see the finished product! A quick tip before you HT is to square up everything, Make sure that all of your surfaces are flat and even, you'll get a better fitting of the handles and cleaner bevel lines if you do, Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of my latest knife but I'll link a video
I used fairly thick liners which create good definition and you can see how flat and squared up all the edges are on this knife which adds a nice touch :)

Wel Folks

The HT and temper went like a dream, a file doesn't bite the knife and scates off sounding like glass!! just need to clean up now and then on to handling!! I have chosen mahogany for the handles and raw aluminium for the pins (I wanted silver pins but ones that will dull as i wnt the knife to look a bit rustic not all shiny and new)

I'll post pictures a bit later

I'm really interested to see this ones progress - its the one that gave me the idea I might be able to actually do it myself! And as the originator seemed to lose interest in the ebay stock.....;)
