Here in France there's loads of space and I'm sure I can wild camp quite easily, for example in the dunes by the beach. OH is very nervous about the whole idea - she's a bit traditional - not like me - but with canpsites costing about 25 quid for a night it seems a very good idea to me. How can I convince her that wild camping is a good idea?

Well it looks quite straight forward with my OH, all she asked for is:-

her bed
her pillow
her duvet
a shower
a "proper" toilet
a spa
no bugs
....etc.....etc.....etc......

as you can see, I have had great success at convincing Caitlin ;)

you get the point ;)

Try these.

Stunning views.
Beautiful sunsets and sunrises.
Peace and solitude.
Wildlife. (some may see this as a disadvantage...lol)
Its romantic (that might work)
No kids (unless you take some)
Its Free.

lol im sure there are many more but the old take nothing but memories and leave nothing but footprints applies.

Hope she comes round to your way of thinking

Invest in a decent tent :D airbed, and find a site with good loos and showers.
When she is happy with that lot, pare things down bit by bit.

Drop her in the deep end; bivy bag and mozzies, piddling, etc., in the bushes  , cold, mucky, and unslept, and she'll just not come and play again. :(

cheers,
Toddy

Note that sleeping on the beach or in the dunes is a big no no. Dunes are protected and often surveyed with night vision equipment by "gendarmerie".

My wife is keen to start bushcraft camping, as soon as I can fit a jacuzzi in the tent:rolleyes:

The wife is happy enough for me and the lad to go camping so long as I take her away on sunny holidays (Gran Canaria again this year) and luxury weekend breaks; in fact, I get the best of both worlds :)

I'd have to agree with Scrogger. Ive tried to get some of my more 'home comfort' friends out camping before and had the 'how will i straigten my hair?' etc questions. However most can be persuaded with an amzing view they cant resist, enough warm clothes, and a good bottle of wine :) i'd recommend just starting with one or two nights though, as the beauty of the natural surroundings can start to get over powered by the need for a hot shower.

good luck

or is this me being very underhanded and sly.

I'm with Tengu, why bother, she'll hate it and she'll make you know that she is hating it. Relish the time apart, you don’t have to share every interest. Though my wife has now joined to ranks of people who loves to camp. (Post moot euphoria allowed her to see camping as enjoyable)

I have spent years trying to persuade my missus that the two of us should take up a spot of wildcamping, always with a big no.

Then I just stopped asking. In a week or so me and a walky mate are off backpacking for a few days round the lakes. The missus wasn't even asked if she fancied going.

Then... all of a sudden... last weekend....she came out with....." I think we should go camping out in the hills" !!!!!

My devilish plot has worked it seems.

So the simple answer , is stop asking .

Like most people i am not allowed to use the 'C' word in our house....however the 'C' word in this case is Camping:lmao:

That's why in two weeks time we are off to Dubai for five star luxury (for SWMBO) and then ten days later i'll be at the moot:) Dont get me wrong though, i enjoy the luxury of Dubai also :D

I'm with you... We women can be stuborn creatures, and will often dig heels in when we feel something is being pushed upon us.

I would suggest that you don't stop going, just go without her, and come back full of the joys of spring (or summer, or autumn...). She will soon see how much you love it, and want in on the action.... And if she doesn't, the chances are she'd hate it anyway and neither of you would have fun if she came.

My guess is the former though

I must admit that this sounds familiar - swmbo has certainly not been as anti camping since i shut up about it and enjoyed it without,

Perhaps this is the best approach - not a quick solution but it does mean that if she does come out then its her choice and therefore less likely to blame you ;)

on a slightly different note my missus is expecting our first baby so she currently has a stay of execution on the camping side of things anyways :)

Cheers

Sit on beach and watch the sunset on a warm evening. Have picnic, the rest she will think is her idea. IE don't ask. Have a ground sheet on the tent dunes have can have lots of hoppy things.

My Daddy and uncle wont come with me either.

What do I do? As men they should have an instinctive urge to do these things.

Is this in much the same way as you should have an instinctive urge to bake cakes and arrange flowers Tengu?

I have never seen the point in trying to get people to what they don't want to.

You have two choices:

1) select a partner you know enjoys the things that you enjoy
2) have a relationship where you do some things without your partner

Both work - depends if you want to spend time with your mate. I do - indeed part of the reason I am with her is that we share values, interests and hobbies

Sell it as romantic.

Go off somewhere quiet, moonlight, stars, open fire, bottle of wine chilling in a stream, stick some candles in jam jars then put the jars in white paper bags and you have your own lighting effects. Then wake her up an hour before dawn and make her stand too in case of attack.
