Nathan came home today with a 25 ltr keg of lager, for free. Received from someone who's just bought a pub, old stock from previous owner.

Its in one of those aluminium looking kegs.

Problem is, how do i get the lager out of it?

Any help appreciated:D

A joke by the way.......:beerchug:

A flywheel puller for a wee bike or quad and a large funnel can be used at a push....

..I may be able to borrow a proper keg tap for the wekeend....
...maybe.

Lager will be in a pressure keg - you'll need a CO2 delivery system with the appropriate fittings.

In a previous life I ran a nightclub. One fine Sunday morning I was sorting out the cellar ready for the delivery the next day. Shifting the empty barrels I hit the top of one of the barrel taps. The spout of bl**dy beer hit the ceiling! Not only did I ruin the beautiful paintjob on the ceiling but the beer gave my hair luster my girlfriend envied!

Now. many moons later I no longer have the girlfriend (or most of my hair for that matter!) but I'll never forget the pressure in the barrel.

So, be very careful. DON'T USE A DRILL (especially one plugged in to the mains!). The pressure is likely to shoot the thing into your face (messy, but a good test of your FAK).

Can the new landlord lay his hands on a proper barrel tap? With the tap, a short length of hose and a quick hand you should be OK. A CO2 system is useful as it maintains the pressure in the barrel and pushes out the last of the amber nectar. As you'r not looking to reuse the barrel as a barrel it won't matter too much if you bang out the valve.

FIRSTLY , lay the barrel on its side in situ where it is going to be used and leave it for at least 24 hours( you cant open a bottle of pop, cleanly, if you've just shaken it up)
next. If its decent beer inside it will have a wooden plug about 2.5" diameter in the top of the barrel with a small concentric circle stamped in the center of it.You will need a barrel tap( ask nicely at your local they may lend/hire you one. Line up the center of the rear of the tap with the small stamped circle and whack the front of the tap with a large wooden or rubber mallet.,
If it just has a male twist fit valve at the top of the barrel, its full of p*ss and not worth the hassle BUT you'd have to get a female fitting and possibly CO2 bottle from your local brewery supplier.
