I recently bought a Nanok Arctic jacket from ebay. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but it's definitely very warm. I can't seem to find a label on it anywhere and it looks a bit different from the pics I've seen on websites (no black tabs by the zip). I can't imagine it's a knock-off so I wondered whether anyone else has one and knows anything about it (maybe an older version). I also noticed some small elastic loops around the collar, attachments for a hood possibly?
Any info would be appreciated.
cheers
Heath

Seems a bit strange. Never seen one like that. A version of it was issued to the French SF for Afghanistan - but it is a sand colour on the inside? There are a few copies out there Snugpak are doing one called the "snowstorm" (but I think it has a hood), Karrimor had a version too called the "yeti" (but I think it was down rather than synthetic) and I'm sure I've seen a couple of others.

I did a review of the Arctic here. Have a look and see if your is vastly different. Either way if it works and keeps you warm then it doesn't really matter! Its just a label :D .

Thanks Beer Monster, I can't see the pics in your review becuase I'm at work and the filters don't like pictures, but just from the description it is definitely different. Mine is black on the inside and is reversible, there are two pockets inside and out. I agree with what you say about a label but it would be nice to know that it was manufactured by a company I trust. I have emailed Nanok and the seller so it will be interesting to see if I get any replies.

...... mmmmh. Not sure I've seen one in reversible green/black. Quite a few of the snugpak jackets are like that (for example the Sleeka)?

Fear not Heath, you may find that you have an SF jacket and not an Arctic Jacket. I too have an SF Jacket, olive green reversible to black. You'll probably notice that there are none of the black tab's on your's. This is because, those tab's are only on the Arctic jackets and the SF jackets reversible to white. They are for use when wearing gloves. Because the version reversible to black is for use in temperate environments, there is no need for them. You'll also notice there are no eppaulette's for rank badges. These too are only on the reversible to white, why, i do not know.

These are great jackets, more hard wearing outers than the Snugpak but bulkier and there fore not really suitable for wearing underneath stuff, like the sleeka. That drop tail is good though, and the collar elastic is halfway down the collar rather than the top like the sleeka, and therefore does not irritate the back of your neck!

Thanks Jedediah, that makes sense. I found the label now in one of the inside pockets and it is definitely Nanok. Just looking forward to an opportunity to use it now.

They are for a hood, Heath:

Mystery solved :D ! I didn't know the SF also came in black/olive :o post some picks Heath - it would be interesting to see the differences.

I can't see your photo but I thought that was probably the case. Does anyone know where I could get a hood from?

I'll try to put some pics up later.

I personally don’t know where you could get one from, but it seems likely that they only come with special contract versions of the jackets (Endurance Reversible SF Jacket/Endurance SF Cold Weather Suit/ Endurance Arctic Jacket), as most retailers never mention any thing about a hood for the jacket they’re selling, I assume they don’t come with one. The only thing I can suggest is that you email Nanok and ask them if they have a spare hood from a contract that they could let you have.

Pics of your jacket would be interesting, by the way.

Best regards,
Paul.
