I'd be overly tempted go and play in areas that used have a significant military presence shall we say? The magnet fishing would be similar. From the safety and legality perspectives, it's better that I don't have the equipment easily available!I would go for a metal detector. It depends on what you want. If its curious fun then have a go. All of what you pull up is ferous metal and has no value but I would say it is interesting. Pirate Treasure is not magnetic so there no geting rich unless its in a steel box. DD xxxx
LOL. we live in Ireland so theres no saying what you might pull from beneath the ground or under the water. .DD xxxI'd be overly tempted go and play in areas that used have a significant military presence shall we say? No but a friend recently made the suggestion to me that we should try it for me to poo poo that idea around here given unlike my pal I am very aware of my area's wartime history to be aware of the 2800 high explosive and 200,000 incendiary bombs dropped on the city and it's surroundings during the war, a believed 10% failed to detonate to be out there somewhere and yes they are being found mostly by innocent groundworks operations to count three this year of a size enough to level a street of which was not a patch of the 500kg monster that was uncovered the year before.Anyone here ever 'fished' with a strong magnet on A rope ??
Can't see me having time to play with this myself but I could imagine interesting things being pulled up at certain convenient pedestrian choke points.
Anyone ?
Funny you should say that as we did discover stuff in a canal adjacent to a bridge when in a previous employ we ran a line of open cut pipework under the canal to have to close and over pump the section. Well rotted of course but a number of single shot flintlocks and early percussion pistols one of which through having an octagonal barrel I attempted to identify to figure potentially a weapon used in a nineteenth century crime. Later on when tying in road gullies to a sewerage tunnel we had mined up a main road the discovery of a Webley service revolver of which was handed to the police through awareness of the weapon's potential criminal involvement.lol. we live in Irela

Brilliant story. Thank you. On the subject of solving historic crimes my friend was an archeologist and found some coin moulds from roman times they turned out to be made by a coin counterfitter. I thought that was so much better than finding the real thing. xxxFunny you should say that as we did discover stuff in a canal adjacent to a bridge when in a previous employ we ran a line of open cut pipework under the canal to have to close and over pump the section. Don't be so negative. That attitude repels me..I don't understand the attraction![]()
You are not alone, neither does science.I don't understand the attraction![]()
Suppose yeah, that’s be the obvious, but you’d think there’d be better methods of disposal.whadaya reckon? murder weapon?
Oh yeah, I know that one. There are a lot of those to lose.Well I've been fishing swarf and needle rollers out of a hedgecutter gearbox with a magnet recently...
I thought that. but I dont think you'd be bothered , Water destroys any evidence so its as good a place as any xSuppose yeah, that’s be the obvious, but you’d think there’d be better methods of disposal.
