I was in the car park at the farmers market. The puddles had a black background as it was tarmac so couldn't realy see just by looking. I did wonder about scooping some up in my bag to look, but it would have been an odd thing to do in front of dozens of people when it was raining. Pretty sure it's this. The atmosphere the rain fell through is loaded with all sorts of dust, algal spores etc from the dry weather. The science says the reason why is due to the high humidity and milder coastal weather and where buildings are concerned it's due to older housing stock that promotes the formation of condensation

I think when science was mentioning older stock in these parts it was possibly indicating what could have been the emergency housing that was lobbed up after the war given how extensively the city I live on the outskirts of was bombed - even Churchill announced to the nation that the city had been flattened.It depends what you mean by older stock
15 years ago lived in a 70s council flat, constant condensation problem
difficult to open windows because of noise, dust from road, cigarette smoke and otehr nasties...
moved to 200 year old cottage, no condensation, also almost immediate affect we hardly ever got colds and chest/breathing illnesses any more
theres one small section of the house thats damp...where they had dampcoarse put in...
because the stone walls breath, moisture doesnt hang around on walls...
in the summer we vent windows every day in the german fashion...- Luften
but the dehumudifier really helps with the heat, use AC as well now its silly hot, but not always....
Also having a wood fire helps as its a dry heat, when you gavce gas heating/boilers it creates extra moisture
just changing from oil boiler to wood, so much more efficient we got rid of all teh radiators as well, about £800 a year for all heating and cooking, even less if we get free wood from anywhere....plus £180 for chimney sweep...

But my place a mid eighties dwelling situated out on a promontory with no gas supply meaning no central heating of which is clearly not helping matters has always in the twenty years I have been here, been damp and of course a bridged damp course leading to a soggy corner is not helping but am hoping the newly acquired dehum will improve matters given the six litres of moisture a day the thing was extracting from the fabric of my interior in the first month of having the thing.
But as to heat, I am of the opinion dehumidification takes the 'weight' out of heat to support the body's evaporative cooling system to make the experience of hight heat that much more manageable of which is a feat borne out by the some of the nerdy data I collect pertaining to temperature, humidity and pressure both inside and out. To also beyond lobbing up reflective sheets in the windows to reject the sunlight my large west facing bay window is subject to, of which made the space between the blind and the window a bit of an oven to in event melt stuff to be surprised the forgotten spider plant survived, I found inducing air movement by way of a 18 inch fan aided evaporative cooling.
We have to be be able support our only cooling system of which is why hot weather can be a killer in that it causes the heart to work harder in a bid to cool the core but I discovered another method of cooling that perhaps the body induces perhaps as an extra measure, you know that tiredness we feel in high heat, well sleep lowers the body temperature as noticed when i succumbed to sleep in the heat of which eventually did come when I stopped thinking about the discomfort I always awakened cold.
And one other cold milk is more cooling than cold water I understand because of the fat content, where of course milk also contains electrolytes whereas water has the potential to flush out electrolytes particularly sodium. Where what was the WHO recommendations about the consumption of electrolytes, every two hours in high perspiration conditions. But because of other I already carry electrolyte chews in my day bag to have over the summer supplemented those chews with a tube of ORS formulation to if need be lob in the litre of water I routinely carry.

Also my sheet comprises two reflective faces with insulating material between to wonder it that was a help. Am hoping to fit white day and night ' zebra ' blinds to my west facing glass before next year as the white is somewhat reflective as think heat has pretty much gone now.weve been using blackout sheets as well, silver on the outside, and with harsh sunlight, means can actually watch a TV screen

does annoy me when people say the weather is simply nice and people are complaining about having good weather...
about 1000 people per day were dying during the strongest heatwave days, mostly elderly becaus of heart related issues or heatstroke, with heat, the blood thickens ( and as you say, blood cooling the core)...
i dont get why people say you need to chug many litres of water per day, they ar just flushing out electrolytes,
ive been having electrolyes, and lots of salty food, a cracker craving indicates a hot day!

Milk, the science says it's more cooling because cold milk is more effective at cooling and hydrating in hot weather because it contains electrolytes, proteins, and natural sugars that help the body retain fluids more efficiently than plain water.
The useful electrolytes in milk that aid the body in conserving fluid are sodium and potassium where am reading medical experts in the UK are recommending the consumption of milk in heatwaves for the very reason of those electroytes
