Today has been worse than yesterday. I had to bring my hanging basket tomatoes into the shade out the back(still 37° there), and everything in the garden is wilting despite copious watering this morning.
Its 29 in the house now. I just cant get it any cooler despite fans and wet towels. Ive been sat in the bath in cold water most of the afternoon. Going wrinkly!
Struggling yo breath properly. Oxgen sats went down to 95 earlier, now up to 97, but ive realy struggled today. Hoping for a big thunderstorm tonight. Its predicted, but there is still not a cloud in the sky.
Anyone explain why there are no con trails in the sky the last two days? Have they stopped spraying so we overheat and stay indoors, and crops fail or what? (Tounge in cherk emoji) yes i know its el ninio, but the lack of con trails is intrigiing.. is there a scientific explaination?

If the humidity is low enough at the altitude the plane is flying there's no reason the exhaust vapour trail should be generated because the air is so dry. Air pressure (ambient and the change over the wing), humidity, and temperature can all combine to create short-lived vapour trails as well.

My tomatoes have curled their leaves inwards as they are hot. The polytunnel covers have slackened as they got so hot. Hoping the forecast thunder and rain arrives and cools things. Still about 31 C outside.

A 10 degree drop in temp is forecast by morning, here's hoping....

I think this is all about El Niño. Here, in Florida, the El Niño has been creeping in for weeks. We like the Niño as it tends to repel hurricanes from Florida. These last La Niña years have been terrible, missing winters, severe drought. The drought in Southern Florida that I have been able to walk out into portions of the Southern Everglades, on dry land, that normally have four feet of water and alligator everywhere. So, I think we are transitioning to a robust El Niño that should be fully in place by August.

The promised thunderstorms never materialised. No rain either.
Back to another hot day.
I need this extreme heat to end. Felt real ill yesterday. Couldn't do anything, very bored having to stay inside rather than enjoy the weather.

I only just afforded a new phone, I was saving for a cheap air conditioner and was just about to send off for it. Back to square one for me.
I'd never be able to afford a decent one.
It's actualy warmer in the house by two degrees than outside, despite windows open all night and the fan going.
It's miserable.
I know I'm moaning a bit, but I do have heart and lung conditions which are making these last few days a real trial.
Supposed to be a bit cooler today, we will see how I cope . 23 is my max comfort zone.

Open your loft hatch in the evening and leave it open overnight
Yeah, can't realy reach it and I don't have a ladder, so keep opening and closing isnt easy, but its propped open with a couple of brooms. I've got a two inch gap for hot air to escape into the loft. Not perfect, but every little helps I guess.
It's now 1° warmer in the house than outside, but the fan helps a bit making me feel cooler.
Hate having the curtains closed. It's so dark and gloomy with the thermal blackouts up.
I've been concentrating on making the house suitable for cold weather, as i cant realy cope with the cold either,so it's very insulated, making it difficult to cool it down when it gets hot inside.

When I was a kid my dad used to put a large square fan over the opening of the loft hatch blowing upwards. It sucked cool air in through the downstairs windows and blew hot air upwards and out through the roof eaves. It works really well. The fan looked similar to the one in the picture below and on its low speed setting was silent and used very little energy.

Yep, sounds good.

Just opening it full will give enough draw through in my experience, as long as you have a correctly ventilated loft!

I pulled out some 12v pc fans from the box of bits yesterday. I could see that adding a bit more umph up.

Just had a small brainwave.
Took out the picnic bag ice blocks from the freezer , and now sitting with it wrapped in a j cloth in my groin area. About where the main artery s are, and it's cooling me nicely.
My thought was a hot water bottle works best if you put it there, why not a cooling block?
Try it, it works.
