  • BushMoot: Come along to the amazing Summer Moot 31st July - 5th August (extended Moot : 27th July - 8th August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
36 in the shade this afternoon!
But the sky is lowering its gone quite dark, and its just started to spit with rain.
Hoping for a big thunderstorm.
The air was so thick and still I could hardly breath. Just been outside dancing the storm up in the back garden. That little sprinkle of rain is deliciously refreshing!
Now time to prep for a possible power cut. Not much to do, a flask, and camping stove to sort lamps are always in place, power banks are charging. Sorted
Bring it on!

Hopefully the electromagnetic waves from the lightening haven't damaged your phone. We have to switch off all electrical appliances & internet devices when a thunderstorm passes.

Apparently, it's currently cooler in North Africa than in France.

I hope your phone recovers. Long ago my friend’s phone turned magenta. (pink and blue) Something had knocked out the green pixels. No idea what it was. Her’s didn’t recover.

Sounds as if yours has lost the red pixels.

That trip to Tesco can’t come soon enough.
Good luck.

Ta, off to tesco today, and also buying a back up dumb phone.
I hate tech, it always picks me for a fup!
Might have to stand on a few street corners to afford it...but they usualy pay me to go away, so it's quite lucrative....(.joke, just in case anyone gets squiffy ideas! But I might have to sell a kidney or three)

I think that you will find Tesco helpful with your new phone. Stick to a budget of £20 - £30 and you’ll get the pay-go dumb phone that you are looking for.
That range can include a camera but it’s very basic.

I don’t thing that they can help with your current screen problem. I suspect that needs a replacement screen unit (if it is even possible)

BTW I don’t think that the heat caused your problem. Did you leave it in full sun? That tends to kill them stone dead.

Tesco were not so helpful past selling me a new phone. Wouldnt transfer my data for me as they had done in the past. So managed to get my nice neighour to sort it all out when he got home from work, bless his socks.
I got a cheap sim free dumb phone for 25 quid aswell, im too hot and tired to set that up tonight, but ill get it sorted tomorrow.
No rush for that, its just a back up.
Neither phone came with a plug, and the new samsung charging lead is different to my old one, so i cant charge it from the wall or my baby jackery. Luckily i bought a new charger a few weeks ago and it fits that, so for the moment i have to charge my portable charger then charge this new phone.
MORE FAFF!
still, ive a working phone again thank goodness.
Today heatwise has been brutal for me,
My hair has been soaked with sweat all day. Nasty. 37° in the shade. Now off for a cooling footbath and tepid shower. Blow the watering tonight, ill wake early and do it in the morning. Yesterdays drenching seems to have kept everything in one piece today. Its only me thats wilting!
Tomorrow is supposed to be hotter yet.
Im gonna stay in the bath all day i think if today is anything to go by.
Mebbe if i can get sorted early enough i might go sit in the river all day instead.
Still not a breath of wind here. No cooling breeze at all. Cant even get a through draught in the house, cirrently 25° and 70% humidity, Its horrible.

It's worth checking if your power bank does pass through charging? I.e. the power bank is connected to the mains, and then your phone to the power bank.
Either way, if you find out what port your phone has (probably USB C or micro USB, the manual should say), you can easily get another cable.

You can get tiny adapters for anything to anything. My battery pack has four leads but I bust the iPhone one. No problem, a little C female to lightening (iPhone) swings from my phone lanyard.

Glad one phone problem is coming right if only slowly.

Just read that somerset had 18500+ lightening strikes in that storm . Glastonbury got flooded . Im not suprised. My friend j and i were saying last night that we thought our road was going to flood with the amount of water running down the path. It was absolutly crazy. Like a tropical storm.
Supposed to ne hotter still today. Presently 25 in the house, and 68% humidity.
Temps climbing quickly already at 7.30 am.

Sorry to read about the heat. Please tell me why you can't get air conditioning? You can cool just one room with a portable AC. Is it the cost of electricity that prevents you from getting an AC? I grew up in the American south in the days when AC was not in houses or cars, like today. Now, as I am approaching dodery I cannot live without it. I am that person with medical problems that mandate that I stay in a specific zone of temperature and humidity.

Some rambling advice. Consider that as we sweat we also lose the minerals in the blood. The University of Florida 'gators football team had a scientist develop a fluid replacement that worked better than plain water. What they devised is a drink called Gatorade, it works. You see professional athletes slamming this down. If you can't locate this product or the many copies you should think fluid AND electrolyte replacement. Fruit are best for electrolytes. Eating apples cooled by the refrigerator is excellent to keep you stable. Dried apricot are also excellent sources of electrolytes. Stay away from dairy, meats and hot food that make your body work to digest. Easy to digest food, in small quantities, cool, non dairy drinks.

In the American south we drink iced tea all day. This is often served with large amounts of sugar and lemon. The sugar heats you up to digest. I do not suggest that, but plain black tea with ice and lemon works. Do not drink any alcohol or coffee, they both draw fluids from your blood making you feel worse.

The hot areas of the world have been dealing with this for centuries. Consider how traditional Arab clothing and food work for thatenvironment. Loose fitting cotton clothing to absorb sweat and help cool you as it dries, falafel, humus, tabuule are all excellent at dealing with heat. Go outside and sit under a tree while waiting for a breeze is likely your best choice.

Sadly i live about 20 miles away from anywhere that sells this sort of stuff.
I only buy it if i can see it, before someone suggests i get one online.
Its no big deal, i'll get a plug next times im in town. Im used to waiting for what i need. Plus right now, the pennies took a big bashing. So it will have to wait. I can still charge the phone, so no worries.

All good advice. Ive got a little spoon that measures salt and sugar in the correct quantities to make your own electrolites, add in a bit of squash or juice and there you go. The rehydration sachets are about a pound each! Very expensive, but always handy to kerp a few boxes of them handy gor such a situation as now as well as for treating the runs.
The trouble is, we english are not used to this sort of heat and the humidity is very high too. Weve had no time to acclimatise. Less than a month ago i was wearing my winter woollen warm jumpers and a coat!
This morning i had a few blissfully cool moments laying on the dew soaked grass under my apple tree, after i put the washing out.
British houses are built to conserve warmth, as we dont often get these sort of temps, and for weeks the shops have been sold out of fans, pet cooling mats and ac units.
Very little breeze too, just muggy stillness, its quite eerie even the birds are cowering in the bushes from the heat.
Only a few more days to go, and we will be back to our normal wetter and cooler summer for a bit. Cant wait.
I too have conditions that make it dangerous to be out in this heat. Not fun.
Wish i could go out and enjoy the sun like i used to. :(

If you can provide the model of your phone, the model of your portable charger, and of your mains charger (or a photo of the ports) I can an then find the appropriate products and post them to you. I have lots of spare cables and I'm sure one or more will work for you. I also have some spare mains chargers, they're not powerful, but do charge devices, and one of these may work for you if you can confirm the ports needed.

And/or photos of the ports on all of the above, if that's easier.

Delay doing anything heavy duty until it gets cooler. I’ve got a load of hedge cutting for customer's this week but I’ve cancelled until next week.

Going to potter about in my own garden today (and possibly the rest of the week) and enjoy the weather with cold drinks and fine food… and I’m not going to feel the least bit bad about it.

Home made Rehydration solution recipe.
1 litre of water
1/2 measured teaspoon of white salt. Use a kitchen measuring spoon not a normal teaspoon.
8 teaspoons of sugar. Ditto
Mix until disolved.
Can be flavoured with fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice for added vit c, or other flavourings like squash or other fruit juices.
Just drinking water can flush out salts and nutrients that our bodies need, so beware of just drinking gallons of water without replacing the salts and sugars too.
The special spoons are available( on line of course)for a few pounds, always handy in a first aid kit along with a couple of salt and sugar satchets in case of need when out and about.
