Easy to remove the eye stabbing glare, by shielding the front of the LED, either in front of the LED directing the photons towards the reflector, or designing the front clear screen properly.
They have been designing fantastic headlamps/lamps for ages.
Lucas, the man who invented darkness was English?

Halogen bulbs are also high intensity and small, but they do not blind like LED.
I am not sure if the LED is better than a Halogen on cars.
I fitted some quite expensive LED lights ( USD 500+) on our Landies, and to be frank am not sure about the light picture quality and length.
They look cool - yes. But function?

LED and HID is hell for us that had laser eye surgery.

Putting a shield in front limits the area of illumination, no way it can’t. Headlamps and lamps blind in the same way as torches if directed at the subject. The technology is the same throughout, but many headlamps can be swivelled downwards. Car and motorcycle lights are legally required to be angled so as not to blind. Bicycle lights need the same legislation.

Halogen for battery powered lights is now outdated due to the power usage. A high lumen halogen spotting lamp needs a huge battery usually carried on a shoulder strap.

And they have a reflector and the front ’shield’ designed to create a non blinding shape of the light.

In the old days, when the rear Silvered reflector was symmetrical and the front glass without those Fresnel like ( for lack of a proper English) they placed a small shielding metal cup on front of the bulb. That cup had no rearfacing reflection abilitirs

I know this from restoring a pre WW2 MB, where both headlamps wete missing. Was difficult to find exact the same lamps. Nobody makes old metric lamps like that, and good old Prince of Darkness only does inches.

I do not want to go into lengthy details, but those lamps blinded badly without that cup. The cup of course removes some Lumens.

I think they make the LED stuff the way they do to cheapen production, and be able to hike the Lumen to max.

Not that you need that many. Ever tried the Dynamo powered lamps?
You had to cycle with a cigarette in the mouth to increase the visibility.
Tricky when you were 10. :)
Badly designed HID are also bad.

well got my torches about a week ago, for the money im impressed, not a light i would rely on when out and about, but perfect for the workshop and the bike mounting brackets make them even more adaptable as i can clamp them on to things to position the light perfectly. Going to mod the rear light and get rid of the red plastic and use it as a low intensity flood type light in the shop too, all in all well chuffed.

just to clarify, Goatboy asked you to promote his eBay sales on Bushcraft UK?

Pulling your leg as they are all sold now, people seem to say no connection, thinking about it logically, its useless oneway or the other, if I do have a connection or don't, I'm not going to admit it if I did! . Isn't he a moderator anyway?

Edit.
And a moderator from glasgow to boot! In in all honesty, at that price I cannot see it being a problem? The only thing I really plugged was the price, and at such a price I cannot really see any conflict of interest.

Yep got mine too, the colour is a but off, but even with 3aaa they are quite bright. The red one thouugh is not an 18650 light though as advertised :( handy things though, and not as much of a worry as a 60 quid nitecore!

Mine are all working fine, even after being caught in a prolonged downpour of Biblical proportions!
It was almost worth the money for the fittings even without the torches. I’m keeping them as a backup when my usual blinding searchlight runs out of charge.
If I get sick of them I reckon I’d get my money back at a car boot sale.
