I think people are going to be pretty shocked at the price Andy is going to be charging. I thought the starting price would have been at least twice what he was saying.

I asked him about the handle construction and this is the reply...

Tech spec on that one is 440C 57-58RC 4.5inch blade. Scales and liners are G10 epoxied and then screwed. Inside of handle is bored out flush after allowing a couple days to dry so nothing sticks out on the inside. Milled from 14mm - 16mm thick flat stock. One piece and full tang hollow handle.

The design is very versatile and allows a lot of flexibilty. You can make the hollow part as big or small as you like (within reason of course), and you don't have to have a firesteel in there. The butt doesn't have to be flat (like my next one), and handle can be any shape, size, material etc etc. Also I have a patent pending on the design. There really are not many compromises with this design of hollow handle, so why not have it there...?

Firesteel in the handle keeps everything water and air tight and protects it. It also doesn't get loose or rattles as it wears down and is very easy to get to even if you leave the knife in the sheath and just want use the steel. Quick release screw makes it pretty simple and quick

So in short, the butt can be shaped, flat, handle hollow or not. And the whole thing is machined from a solid billet. I keep a ferro rod on my person when out and about, but like he says, I can't see the harm in having another as back-up with the knife just in case. I'll be using this knife as part of my rainforest kit which is the one place I don't take my own knife as knives really do get messed up over there. But there are still more tests to be done and final conclusions to be had. The fun is in the playing :D

Andy's sheath is very nice. Rob Bayley has given him permission to loosely use his pattern. But I carry all my knives in a vertical belt sheath, so yours well be used with this knife all of the time. Great quality and it really suits this knife.

Apparently, it starts at 445 quid.

Yeah, Andy was going to offer it at a lot less than that originally, I was really surprised and although he'd sell tons of the things at the original lower price, I doubt he would have been in business for long. The various hollow handled models will be around that price, but a standard tang version without the hollow design will be lower. No idea on the pricing of these, but his website should be up soon so we shall see.

Knife looks fantastic, but unless thats your own woodland throwing knives into live trees is a bad thing to do, imagine if everyone started doing that the woods will get so scared, bushcraft would become so much harder to practice as no one would want to give anyone permission.

If you read the review JD does state that the trees are about to be cleared - seems reasonable to do what he did in that case ... as long as he has permission to do such things as fell them and generally have free rein...

It's a private woodland removed from and not having any public access at all. Throwing knives should be the least of anyone's worries anyway. Generally you can't do photoshoots with cobra's on public land either:lmao:

Her name is Nagell. She's quite famous and has been on quite a few documentaries, films and TV programmes as a stand in when close ups are needed due to her reluctance to bite.

JD and plastic snakes????????????
Not everyone here is a Bear G style outdoorsman - some do not believe in faking things!
Mind you, I rather thought JD would be more wary of flying sharps than most of us.....

I'm OK with flying sharps when I know where they're going and when they're going to fly. It's those sneaky sharps that do it when you don't expect them too that scare me

Rest assured all throwing took place on very very private property. Emms mothers to be exact. Sadly she stayed indoors when this was going on. Nothing irresponsible about knife throwing as long as you know what you are doing and doing it away from other people on your own land. Same with shooting guns and handling snakes. Well.. unless they're British snakes that is.
