Ladies n gents. I'm sure there has been much discussion previously regarding the buffalo product range. (in fact I can see there has been). However my request is simply, who sells them cheapest? I am after a mends 46inch mountain shirt / special 6. I would even consider a retailer who includes the hood at a decent price. Google seems to not return a wide spread of cost, so any help or local knowledge would be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

There is'nt much difference in price on these. You can pick up hardly used ones off ebay, as some folks can't get on with them.

Get a Montane Extreme Smock. Comes with a hood and can usually be got for under £60.00 without looking too hard. Have owned both and can confirm both are very good. Not a lot between them other than a few small design features. When I wanted to replace my Special 6 I couldn't find one under £100.00 so went for the Montane purely on price.

Thanks Jackdaw. Nothing that low in price yet, but will keep looking. How does the montane compare in size? I am a 46 for the buffalo.

The montane extreme jacket, which is a jacket version of the pertex/pile smock is on sale at Outdoor GB. I switched to the jackets when I started to expand and it's every bit as good as a Buffalo. I've used my Buffalo to walk on the wettest days on Dartmoor and in Scotland so have good experience of both. I've used Outdoor GB in the past and they're good to deal with. Not connected etc.

I have the XL as well and I'm 46" and 100kg. It's fits fine. Just checked re: prices and they seem to have rocketed since I bought mine a couple of years ago. That said, you still get a hood with the Montane whereas you'll have to buy one for the Buffalo.

Good advice folks, much appreciated. The montane looks better value with the hood and whatnot. I'll keep looking for that "special" deal.

I prefer the buffalo but if you want a montane go and try the sizes on. Always been in the middle of two sizes for that make especially the smocks.

I have had a Buff 6 for years, one was stolen, so I immediately went out and bought another one. I have the hood fitted as well.

I also have a Montane Chonos 8, which I bought in Fort William when my eldest daughter was not quite 2, she is 17 now! Very esrly days for Montane, but their design philosophy has not changed a lot.

I have also tried the montane extreme smocks and jackets. The problem I have always faced with Montane id sizing. The guys from Montane were all tall lanky guys, long arms slim physique.

I on the other hand would like to describe myself as more compact and heavier huikd (hahahahah, I am sticking with description), so fof the body size, I always have found Montane arms are far to long.

I did not find thisbwith the Buffalo. That being said, my personal opinionnis that the Montane IS better made, sonif yiu can gef one to fut, then go for Montane.

However, not sure if they are still in the Pile and Prrtex market , but check out Mardale, excellent range, and Knoydart, although I think he may have changed his range in the Sea Kayaking world now.

I found the best company to deal with was Needle Sports from Kendal.

Get the hood, you will not regret it.
