when i went for a walk through NW a couple of weeks ago, i noticed a couple of cherry trees (prunus avium) that were leaning acutely and needing work, one of which had a rather nice burl. so if anyone attending the meet fancies carving a piece for a bowl, spoon or any other project?...

I've not tried it for finer work although I've stripped bark and taken out some angst on some severe garden pruning and bramble clearance :) They're heavy, aren't they... I find my wrists are aching afterwards and I have to think twice about potential overswings when I use the weight of the tool. I'm probably not using it properly yet, I'll find the techniques suited to our less muscular frames eventually, as long as I keep all appendages during the learning ;)

Please will you bring a pair of your homespun socks and a lock of the fleece you were mentioning on facebooks Sisterhood page, Elen? I would love to see them :)

I have some nice chunks of flint from the banks of the Humber, I could bring them along, if someone wants to teach me hands on knapping ?

I intend to bring my new (second hand) chainsaw if that's ok?
I have serviced it, fitted a new chain, bought safety gear for it and tested it as much as swimbo has allowed. What I really need to do is attack those logs we felled last time and see if I can break it :naughty:

PREPER.............. :)

Hi Steve :)

A cherry burl would hit the spot nicely. More than Happy to swap it for a days graft on the work party :)

Happy days, plenty of work :)

I'll bring a billhook in case anyone wants to try one ( a good reminder to sharpen the thing and rehandle it).
