Some rudimentary winter skills depicted by United States Army films from the 1950s and onwards. The scenes and techniques could be well be from Finland so it is not a surprise that the Army developed their methods and equipment based on Finnish instructors after the Second World War.

Not available on the 'net but I bought for 78c from the US plus £4 postage a secondhand copy of "A Snow Walker's Companion" by Garrett and Alexandra Conover through Amazon.
Only arrived today and on first flick through it is a mine of information even includes plans for arctic clothing. Excellent buy.

The current issue Finnish Defence Forces "Winter Training Manual" is also available online. Although you might do not know Finnish there are still great illustrations on its pages; pg. 88 (tying a tent), pg. 93-100 (shelters), pg. 140-141 (ski strechers) . All the page numbers are according to the PDF's and not the original's numbering.
