Sleeping Roll

I have put my snugpak elite 5 sleeping bag, Thermarest 4 season mat, Army goretex bivi bag, and some home made straps all rolled into one.
Saves a bit of bag space i hope.
seems comfy to walk with so far, but still have to see how it works with long distance!
I have used them together many times, and very snug indeed! But not stored or carried this way!
TIME WILL TELL!
Anybody else carrying their sleeping system this way?

Looks good, .......I've added extra webbing onto the bottom of my bergen, you never know what you may need to carry, a bedroll is a good idea as it takes up a hell of a lot of space, even in a massive bergen......also if you fall backwards you've got something soft to land on





Incidently, yours is a Web-Tex bergen isn't it ?....What do you think of it, build quality wise ?

The only problem with loading it all at the bottom is that you'll be fighting it from pulling you over backwards all the time.

It's better if you can keep the weighty items central and near to the small of your back, lighter stuff around that and then the lightest on top. Ideally getting 60-70% of the weight onto your hips and not the shoulders.

For that setup I'd ..

Place the mat inside the empty pack as a tube, stuff the sleeping bag down into that (without the stuffsack) and then the bivvy on top, the rest of your gear on top of that. Evenly packing the outer pockets with light/quick to access stuff, waterpoofs and tarp in the top of the pack.

The other thing is that items attached to the outside of a bag have a tendency to fall off. Whenever I take people on the hill I always insist that everything is inside - it saves any problems later especially in winter.

I have tried a similar set up carrying my army arctic sleeping bag underneath my rucksack.It was uncomfortable pulling on my shoulders and the bag swinging knocking into the back of my legs.Now it all goes in the rucksack as i don't carry so much these days.

Wish my Pack stopped looking so new, Maybe i'll kick it round the garden for a few days and leave it out there overnight!
Yes you are right, it is Web-tex. Only used it about 4 times since i bought it, But with nothing to compare it to, (i,e other bergens), it's difficult to tell !
My old ex army buddy swears by them, but others say they suck!
I have been using a web-tex patrol pack 38L for years and have found it bomb proof!
Bought a Karrimor sabre delta 35 about a year ago, and find that more comfy, a better finnish, but i wouldn't want to through it around like i do the patrol pack!
Love them both and depends on what i am doing, determines which pack i take.
Might be the same with bergens!.
I am looking at the Karrimor sabre 60-100 possibly/maybe.
Would like to find an old canvas Berghaus crusader!
Too many options!

The all in one bed roll isn't a bad idea though, will it fit into the pack in one with room for the rest of your kit?

Try it out first, it doesn't work for them but it may for you...

i think you might struggle to get your rucksack to balance that way, also; it's gonna make your pack pretty wide

You could tie it vertically to molle webbing running up the front (like the army attaches their sleep mats) but you'd have to balance the pack on the inside to compensate........it would still pull a bit on the shoulder straps & may even pull you backwards
