Looks like Damson, but a closer, sharper picture would help make the ID better

Oh yeah... and welcome to the forum Dan :)

Keep your finger on the Ctrl button & turn your mouse wheels to magnify the photo.....looks like sloe to me too.

I don't use a mouse, I have a touchpad thingie...........how do I make it work with that ?

Looks like sloes, but no thorns = damsons, usually.
Slice one open and have a look see what's inside. If it's a wee flat slim stone, it's more likely damson.

cheers,
Toddy

think id like to see a bigger clearer picture before making a positive ID, but they do look like Sloes

Bullace, damson, sloe, wild plum... to some extent, it doesn't matter much. It is something in the plum family, and therefore not a poisonous berry. Some of these plum fruit don't fit into our nice convenient named categories anyway.

I'm not advocating eating anything on a guessed identification (that would be stupid), but we do all seem to be agreed that it is some sort of plum, so if your interest is eating, pick one and try one. It may be very tart, but try and taste the flavour as well as the bite, since the sharpness can be offset by sugar or other fruit.

Thank you :D
Well that works  (all of them :) )

Looks like sloes, but the shape of the wee stone inside is kind of indicative.

Is there anything else it *might* be ? None of the plums are toxic, the cherries are all by, we still have very dark rosehips and some ancient hawthorns hanging on to withered branches though, what about cherry laurel ?

Think we're pretty safe with a member of the plums :)

cheers,
Toddy
