Sprouts are delicious - if not overcooked!
They should be (as I put it) raw but hot. Do not cut a cross in the stem end (it makes them cook too much) and keep them crunchy. One other than boiled way is fried with bacon and garlic and sunflower seeds and some chopped apple ... Mmmmm - hungry now!
I have sprouts most weekends with the Sunday roast and sometimes on camp.
Cooed well they are great - but still make you fart (which is a bonus on a cold night in a sleeping bag!)

Sprouts sautéed so they caramelise and go all sweet and delicious.

Also if your last taste of sprouts was years ago, may be worth trying them again as they’ve been selectively bred to get sweeter and less bitter over the years.

My experience of sprouts was that of getting caned if I didn't clear my plate. So i adopted the habit of picking up each sprout individually and dousing it in enough malt vinegar where I could swallow it whole without touching the sides.

I think the only way I would revisit them now - and yes the irony isn't wasted on me - is ( I can't ignore the health benefits they have ) as finely sliced as part of a citrus asian spicy slaw.

Which sounds alright. A bit in the way " body cavity search " sounds alright... :)

Ref New sprout varieties:
I disagree! The problem with sprouts is that the old varieties needed a hard frost to remove all bitterness and we’ve had a lot of mild winters in recent decades. Producers tried freezing them but that added enormously to the cost. The solution was to breed the all season insipid sprouts that you get in supermarkets today. (In my opinion)

It’s well worth looking out for the old varieties, maybe at a farm shop and sticking them in your freezer for two days.

I like cooked sprouts but dislike cooked cabbage.
Sprouts, sauted in butter with some lovely chestnuts.
Bread sauce coverd sprouts are delicious. My favourite way of doing them, but then I love bread sauce, especially if it's home made from scratch with a touch of mace in it. Yum!

People - feel free to not fixate on Sprout politics and policies.

I'm ( very ) happy to move away from the little Green bleepers.

My on going project of returning lute fish to the table this year is in a kind of floating situation. The rest of the family have not returned positive answers yet ...

Cut carrots and snips to a similar size say 3 or 4" long, par boil, drain and let them steam dry. Mix clear honey, wholegrain mustard and balsamic vinegar in a cup to your reqd quants and taste. Place the carrots and snips in a baking tray then drizzle the mix over, maybe massage for total coverage and roast as normal, i assure you you will never look back.
Sprouts lightly boiled or steamed then mix in the terrine with fried smoked pancetta or lardons and precooked chestnuts straight from the bag add a knob of butter, stir and bingo

Don't spoil xmas for me...
So sorry, but it is Christmas and it's traditional.
But I do understand aversion to something, I can't even smell coffee without wanting to throw. Many will be amazed that my aversion is such, that I cannot bear even a cup of tea stirred with a spoon that has previously been used for coffee without washing in between. My body just reacts instantly, and it's not pretty!
