Well done RB super knife you got there.

Reminds me of something I got from Gerd Jørgensen last March using a Trond Pedersen "Felleskap" blade. The curly birch looks good against the black sheath that’s what colour I picked for my sheath as well.

I have to admit that Gerd's work was the inspiration for this.

This started out a while ago when a friend wanted me to rescale his Woodlore.
He chickened out but i liked the idea and decided to do one for myself.
I finally got around to putting it together today.

Take 1 bog standard WS Micarta Woodlore.

Drill out the bolts.

431_3116_1.jpg

And boil for a few minutes.

431_3121_1a.jpg

After a few minutes the epoxy breaks down.

431_3124_1.jpg

And the scales can be removed.

431_3132_1.jpg

At this point i decided to spend a little time with a set of water stones from Axeminster to put a perfect flat grind on the blade.
I decided to use curly birch and black fibre spacer material on the scales.
I also wanted to replace the bolts with the type that are solid brass on both ends.

431_3134_1.jpg

I drilled into the tang to give the epoxy plenty of grip.

431_3156_1.jpg

This is after the epoxy has set and I'm about to start shaping.

431_3179_1.jpg

First i sand down to the tang.

431_3187_1.jpg

Then i start to profile the scales.

431_3192_1.jpg

A sanding drum in a pillar drill is great for this work.

431_3193_1.jpg

Then i use sand paper to finish working through the grades.

431_3195_1.jpg

And it's done ,just needs soaking in oil for a while before a final coat of wax.

And a custom sheath.

Wow, thats great, would you do that for me, if yes how much??

You want to put that on ebay, I recon it would fetch about £9000.

Chopper i hardly have time for this sort of thing at the minute and this one has been sitting around waiting for about 6 months.
It's really not difficult if you just take your time, give it a go.
Like with my sheath making pic's im hoping these will give members the confidence to get stuck in and try.

rb. Fantastic job - that is a truely beautiful bit of work. Your pics are brilliant and show that there isn't much to be afraid of. Very inspiring - I'm going to have to get myself a kit to make now rather than just thinking about it!

The wood i got in a trade but i believe it originally came from BRISA
Brass tube came from a BB member and the bolts and fibre spacer came from a friend in the US but again check out the BRISA website.

Oooh, this answers a lot of questions for me. I wanted to mod my Micarta WS but kept postponing it, not sure about what I might find underneath the scales. Thanks!

Btw - I really like the combination of curly Maple and the spacer material.

Now, where is my stash of snakewood? :D
