I just wanted to see if people if they had the opertunity would have a nessmuck knife for bushcrafting etc.

I have used some in the past and i find it to be a great tool.
Would you have a full tang or a scandi tang?
What kind of handle materails would be your choise?

I am just fishing for ideas

cheers.

I had a look at one Alan Wood had with him at the Midland Game Fair and it was all I could do not to buy it. I'd already committed my cash to a BFK but was tempted because of the wonderful workmanship and I do find the design attractive. That said (and here's something you may care to debate) I'm not entirely sure what niche such a blade fulfils if you have a pocket knife, a decent scandi-type and a small axe. The larger Nessmuk variants might be a touch cumbersomeand I'm not sure that one is needed to cover tasks which the normal kit can't accomplish.

Beautiful objects though, and to answer the other part of the question, the one I saw was convex ground (I'd probably prefer scandi) and the handle was maple (I think) with what looked like burnt notches IIRC on both ends of the scales..top job.

I keep (just) resisting buying one.

As I'm not a hunter, I don't really need a skinner, but love the looks and provenance. I'd not be fussy about tang design or handle materials if it was solidly made (as I have it on good authority your work is).

Ho, hum, I'll start saving...

Jim.

Alan Wood is making me one as I write! Ramshorn scales and Damascus 4mm twist blade. Direct copy, in terms of shape and scale, as the Loveless one sold on e-bay recently.

Cheers

i would want a full tang. Just prefer more metal to add strength.

I love my Mora's, but I would prefer them to be full tang. Even a stick tang like Helle uses would do it for me. In fact, I like the laminated blades and I know a source that sells Norwegian laminated blades that are a variety of lengths, styles and tangs. They also carry the Green River Knives and knife blades made by Russell Harrington Cutlery. Seems the knives they produce have been in use for a couple hundred years and are the same knives that were used as trade knives by the traders in the Americas. One of them is very much like the old Nessmuk knife.

I'd love a scandi nessmuk to send off to Dave Barker for handle and colouring, but then again full tang might be fun!
But I guess it all depends on the cost!

how much for a full tang blank then? or am i being dumb?

i do think full tang would be a better option and more in keeping with the nessmuk stylee.

:cop:Sorry guys and gals, this thread had just been flagged to me...... .... I'm going to have to stop this now as it has crossed the line of both our makers policy and commercial rules :cop:

First off, the Edged tools section is not the place to sell stuff.

Secondly
Makers Market forum rules:
This is a private, members-only forum for buying, selling personally owned items with other members

As you can see in the above quote the Makers Market is for selling items that you have made and personally own..... as the maker doesn't actually own these knives (they've not even been made) they may not be sold makers market.

Also
Forum Rules:
6 Advertising (Dealers & Traders):
Advertising is not allowed here on the bushcraft UK forum. Whilst we like to see genuine resources made available to our members, a single link and a brief description of a website is perfectly acceptable without penalty although members should not post links to their own ventures, especially when they have no forum presence.(links in signatures are also acceptable as long as this is not abused)
Overtly commercial language is not acceptable, neither is the posting of prices, availability of products etc. Any buy/sell activities should take place via email or PM.

This thread has now turned commercial ..... something we do not allow here, we can't make special rules just for one member.... sorry.

If you are interested in the knives I would suggest you do it via PM or email as a private sale and keep it off the forum so as to stick to our rules and guidelines.

Thanks for your time..... and sorry to have to wave the admin stick but all our makers have to follow these rules.

:)

My apologies to all. It was not my intention to makes sales via this thread but I whished to gauge what would be the response and desire to a knife design I was considering making. My intention was to see what people wanted as I and not a bushcrafter and the members here have a far better idea as to what a real or ideal Nessmuk knife would look like.

My sincere apologies to all.
